Nine Inch Nails - "Closer" (Unrecalled Remix by COIL)

This album refers to the mythology of crossing water spaces, liminal travel, which is always associated with risk, uncertainty, being in a borderline state between lost yesterday and unimaginable tomorrow.

In the interpretation of the Moscow Noise Manufactory, this is not so much a movement from coast to coast, but a dive, as if the ship was leaving through the surface of the water, turning into a submarine — through the luminous twilight, through currents and densities, to the very bottom. A session of deep introspection retold in the language of drone ambient and noise improvisation, it depicts the experience of revising internal cartography without guarantees of finding the desired points, a census of losses and possible finds.

The recording was based on an improvisational performance of the association at the cultural center Dom on August 28, 2021, as part of an event organized by Mist Crossing Division. For the group, it became an important point of internal synchronization and orientation in the collective unconscious. There is a feeling that in 2022 the heuristic and therapeutic potential of this entry has only grown: it is not possible to find the outlines of new shores without looking inward and revising inner maps.

The voice from the box said, "What if the ultimate border situation between garbage and art is actually laughter? (...) The literal yoga of excrement (排泄物的瑜伽), a coprolitic essay on how we, as listeners, encounter 'objects of fear,' process them, and transform them into sound. It's 石头 in our ears."

I said, "But 'for our purposes,' it seems to me that 'just a lonely voice' is needed."

Onufr Gaptev said, "For those who take a vow of silence, any word is shit compared to the name of God, and they remain silent, avoiding soiling their mouth with this shit. However, this contemplative silence, if it intensifies, inevitably breaks down. It reveals that the unspeakable name of God is precisely that: shit. And this is just the beginning. Shit was needed for the emergence of man. Thus, God humiliated Himself in His secret name. It is lower than incarnation, lower and more shameful than anything else. There is nothing beyond this to elevate. And so, man rises, stands up — thanks to God."

Someone said, "There's this evil engineer who invents 車 whose purpose is to suffer. Like that fucking synthesizer made from cats that scream in pain when a musician presses the keys, but this 車 is automatic and extremely durable. And civilizations change, they die out, but the 車 keeps suffering. Eventually, the sun goes out, planets cool down, but the 車 keeps flying in space and suffering. And who the hell knows how much longer it will fly and suffer. And who the hell knows if anyone will learn about its torment, and if they do, will they understand that what this 車 produces is agony?"

She said, "The relentless pursuit of infinite sonic experience in 'Can Stones..?' reminds me of Deleuze's words: 'We need to believe in the world we're becoming.'"

Epitemei said, "That's when I felt like I needed to do something. It was a pleasant idea, it made me very happy, but when I stood up, I realized that I did it all in vain because I didn't feel anything anymore. Then, when someone put their hand on my shoulder, I thought it was my mother, and I opened my eyes. It was a doctor, and he said, 'Here's a pill for you' — and gave me a pill. And then I realized that I was still having a convulsion — what I was trying with my hands — I know, not with my hands — what, what? — to touch."

Berlin via NYC DJ and producer Phase Fatale (resident at Berghain Berlin & Khidi Tbilisi) has been turning heads with albums and EPs on Ostgut Ton, Jealous God over the last few years, in 2023 he is celebrating the 5th anniversary of his label BITE with a very special programme of releases, starting with his first solo EP in 5 years out in March and followed by a 3x12”, 18-track compilation with most iconic artists from the industrial/post-punk-tinged techno scene Silent Servant, Ron Morelli, Ancient Methods, Terence Fixmer, Reka, Pablo Bozzi and many more. Phase Fatale and BITE have become a key referent and tastemaker of this scene shining a light on new talent and supported by the established. He has also remixed The Soft Moon to release on the legendary label Sacred Bones. At the heart of this mix lies the authentic Ukrainian folk polyphony, painstakingly researched and astonishingly performed by the Drevo ensemble. I put it into the broader European context, complementing it with unconventionally raw Early Music recordings by Graindelavoix and Ensemble Organum, as well as some helpful bridging-the-gap digressions, like traditional Sardinian polyphonic singing by Tenores de Oniferi, eastern orthodox hymns brought to life by the Kyiv Chamber Choir and recent renditions of the Ukrainian baroque partes-songs by the Partes Ensemble.

NEN unveils the second record by the mysterious Dreg K project... The listener will easily recognize themselves in this music: its protagonist is an ordinary modern city dweller who wanders within the fortress walls, while a psychotronic Lord bathes him or maybe her in radiation from beyond the Karman line. The release exudes a nearly major key, brimming with greater cohesion and burlesque flair.

Marie La Feuj - Secret Fire (Salamandar Edit)

Over the past few years, Chinese artist Pan Daijing has maintained a rapidly ascending trajectory, one which included a stop at last year's Red Bull Music Academy in Montréal. On January 24, a couple of her tracks – including this grinding Bintus remix of "Druid" – will appear on Power Vacuum's new 'Vectors 3' compilation. The song debuted on RBMA Radio's First Floor, our weekly look at what's new in electronic music.

Grebenstein is a producer, DJ and visual artist living in Kassel, Germany. After playing in several bands as a drummer and guitarist he made his solo-debut with a 4-track EP on the Regis helmed label - Downwards Records in November 2014. 

The ‘Gloss’ 4 track EP for Horo comes after his Downwards Records follow up ‘Strong, Proud, Stupid, & Superior’ with Seefried was released in October 2016.

Based in Belgium and Serbian by origin, Damaskin avoids publicity, giving space for an independent interpretation of its music: a predominantly grim and noisy techno, closely related to the themes of the sacred, judging by the names of the tracks. For the album «Жертвоприношение» ("Sacrifice"), however, the author made some exception. According to him, the recording is inspired by the film of the same name by Andrei Tarkovsky. The following quote from the essay of the film director, published in 1986 in the French magazin 'Positif', can serve as a commentary to the release: "To expose the hysteria which consists in wishing, at whatever the cost, to speak out and to express oneself. It's madness. Everyone desires fame simply as a source of comfort." Tracks of "Жертвоприношение" seem to demonstrate how the hysteria paradoxically turns into a catatonic stupor: the rhythmic electronics freezes in a static repetitivity, as if the desire to speak out paralyzes the speech and turns into voicelessness.
