Closing out our International Womxn's Month mixes, we have a mix from Montreal-based DJ, @glowzi called "weehawe shawtyboi"! In this mix, G L O W Z I takes us around the world with their smooth blend of edits and tracks from various genres ranging from jazz to amapiano, house, baile funk, and afrobeats.

G L O W Z I is a multidisciplinary artist based in Tiohtià:ke. Using and relying on their curiosity as an apparatus to understand & (re)discover the multiple realms they engage with(in), the artist’s mediums of choice encompass plural art forms such as painting, graphic design,
filmmaking, photography, and original music production. By visually and/or auditorily rendering their ways of thinking, their questionings, and their embodied experiences, G L O W Z I conveys anyone whose eyes and/or ears meet their creations to their funky, spicy, and well-seasoned artistic universe(s).

WEEHAWE SHAWTYBOI. | G L O W Z I IWD Guest Mix

This was actually the first time we had been able to get together for a very long time. We hadn’t made music together in the same room for a while so we weren’t sure what was going to come out. We started batting around a kind of slowed down RnB groove. Neither of us expected it at all but we played around and developed it for most of the day . Without saying it, it was clear we wanted to try something very different from the last EP. We sent it to Victory some time later and she voice noted some ideas that we loved. So we jumped into the studio to track it all and finish it up.

This song became about the contradictory feelings of both, being hurt and needing to understand why a relationship may have ended, but simultaneously rushing towards moving on and looking after yourself first.

Tyde - What More Ft. Victory

The ‘Abroad EP’ catalogues a period of time spent travelling Japan in the spring of 2019. Throughout the course of the month-long trip, Rudy carried around a portable recorder, capturing various sounds that caught his ear. That collection of found sounds would eventually become the foundation for the EP, each track utilizing a handful of different recordings ranging from bird calls in Tokyo’s Yoyogi Park, to windchimes in the coastal town of Kawazu. The EP took a full year of patient, daily work to complete, during which time Rudy invited a diverse group of collaborators in to help finish the songs. Throughout the recording process, harp, saxophone, and violin parts were added to create a unique blend of organic and electronic sounds.

A smoothed out, catchy little downtempo bobber from a cool late-winter night in The Vault.  Makaya bounces on a flammed rimshot, Abrams jumps in quickly with some nice bass chords, Justefan colors the progression with his singing vibraphone harmonies, and Marquis tops it all off with a gorgeous trumpet melody and solo verse.
