It’s August - summer hols are happening and we are variously out of office, out to lunch, out of our minds with the heat and the wasps and the early morning light etc. This month’s Live from the Red Tent show is an effervescent and celebratory affair that showcases some exciting new selectas on the scene!

Almost 2 years ago I founded @bigsisdjs in my hometown of Stroud - a DJ Collective for women and non-binary folk age 30 plus. We started off just the three of us - myself, K-Dee and Trudy Turner - putting on events with a central tenet of joy, playfulness and community. Our first two events completely sold out and we had loads of people coming up to us wanting to be a part of the vibe.

I began offering DJ taster sessions for folks to try their hand and overcome the perceived obstacles to participation for women and non-binary folk in the DJ community. This led to me taking on some 121 students, and launching 6- week beginner DJ courses and I’ve been blown away by the first two cohorts from Stroud and Cheltenham. 8 of the 12 participants have performed at our events within a few weeks of graduating the course and absolutely smashed their sets. 

This month I’m sharing sets from 5 members of our DJ community who have graduated recently from our programmes - MissDeerious, Brown-Eyed Girl, Helsync, Frau Bentos and Amy Omen - as well as founding member of the collective, Trudy Turner.

Neon Pumps is a rising producer, live artist, and DJ known for high-energy, genre-defying sets and live shows that fuse brain-tickling polyrhythms with driving club beats, playful pop references, and acid electro synths.

Drawing on three decades of dance music — from acid house and hardcore to electro, IDM, and jungle — her sound blurs the line between the organic and industrial, underpinned by a bold pop sensibility.

Founder of DJ collective Big Sis DJs, and a resident with Sonar Sessions & Red Rebel FM, Neon Pumps is fast becoming a vital force in the underground scene, supporting DJs such as Deekline, Marshall Jefferson, lau.ra, 2 Bad Mice, DMX Krew, Sully, Polo Lilli, Dani Whylie & Tom Ravenscroft.

Her debut album Cat Nav made waves in 2024, with follow-up EP Catch Fire earning BBC Introducing support.

She continues to carve a fiercely original path, with her new singles Gallop and Seagulls released this summer with an EP to follow in the autumn and a second album on the horizon for next year.
