Kiss The Son

Electric guitar instrumental. I've been writing and tweaking this song since the mid 1970s, but just recently started recording it. A work in progress. Lots of tweaking left to do, but decided to upload it anyway. I'm not a big fan of Jazz, but I sometimes like a little Jazz influence - used like a spice instead of an entrée (you know what I mean?). I think this song has a teeny bit of Jazz spice to it, like a Smooth Jazz Fusion kinda thing. Maybe you'll hear that, maybe you won't...

In The Beginning

Jacob's Ladder

Written in the mid to late 1970s. The title comes from The Bible, Genesis 49:10, which is a prophecy of the coming of Jesus. 

Till Shiloh Comes

Wrote this one a little at a time throughout the 1990s. Lots of slides and pull offs. The title comes from The Bible. The Feast of Tabernacles is mentioned more than a dozen times. We're told that the whole world will celebrate the Feast of Tabernacles in Zechariah 14:16.


Tabernacles

Very chromatic song. Bass line frequently moves up or down in half steps. Different than my other stuff. The title comes from The Bible, where it is used about 20 times to describe the Promised Land. The first mention is in Exodus 3:8. 

Milk And Honey

One of my first songs, written in the mid 1970s. The title comes from The Bible, Hebrews 11:13.

Strangers And Pilgrims

A guitarist friend at work lent me his Digitech Jimi Hendrix effects pedal (thanks, Rick!). One of the settings on the pedal is modeled after the sound Jimi Hendrix used at Woodstock when he played the Star Spangled Banner. So, I just turned my CD recorder on and had some fun with it. I don't remember exactly what Jimi was playing as an intro before he started the main melody, so I just tinkered around in the key of E a little bit at the beginning. My Strat is a hardtail - no whammy bar - so you won't hear any of the divebombing here that Jimi used so well at Woodstock. Like I said, I had fun with it. 

Star Spangled Banner

Plugged an electric guitar into the front of an old reel to reel tape recorder. then took the stereo outputs, switched them and plugged them back into the stereo inputs. This created the back and forth echo between the stereo channels. Then tried to make a bunch of sounds without it sounding like a guitar. Just an experiment...

Space Guitar

As a musician, I guess I'm primarily known as a Rock guitarist, since that's mostly been my function in the band at church for the last several decades. My taste in music, however, is actually very diverse. I like all kinds of music, from the softest to the heaviest. I love Classic Rock and Blues (my favorite guitar player is still Jimi Hendrix). I like some really heavy Metal and some really down to earth Country. I like, and miss, Folk music (remember Folk music?). I like ethnic music from various cultures. I'm not a big fan of traditional Jazz, but I like some Jazz influenced things, like the combination of Jazz and Rock that they used to call Fusion. Sorry, but my taste in music does not include Rap or Big Band Music. Maybe it's because I can't sing, but I've always really focused on Instrumental music. In high school, I really liked things like "Classical Gas", and all those Surf Music instrumentals like "Walk, Don't Run", "Wipe Out", "Pipeline", "Out Of Limits", and such. In my first band, The Sonix, in the mid '60s, I was the lead guitarist and we did nothing but that kind of instrumental stuff. 

Since the '70s, I've been writing some pieces of instrumental music that are as varied as my taste in music. Most of it leans toward the softer kinds of music rather than the heavier kinds. Until recently, I had never recorded any of it. Now, in my 60s, I figure if I'm ever going to have recordings of any of it, I'd better start getting really serious about it. So, I've been working with Sonar from Cakewalk - kind of a recording studio in a computer. With it, I can do audio and MIDI multitrack recording, and manipulate the music to my liking. I used to write and play fingerstyle acoustic guitar songs that I really can't play very well anymore due to arthritis in my finger joints (it also doesn't help that I broke my left wrist twice in the last few years). However, through the magic of computers, MIDI, and Sonar, I've been able to recreate those songs. I thought I'd never hear them again, but now I can. What a blessing for me! As I finish the songs in Sonar, I'll upload them to SoundCloud. To start with, they'll just be the single tracks of my older fingerstyle acoustic guitar songs, since they're the easiest to finish first. Later, I'll start finishing the songs that are multitracked with Bass, Keyboard, Drums & Percussion and different parts. You'll notice that the song titles are all words and phrases from The Bible. I love The Bible even more than I love music, so it just naturally happened that way. 

Disclaimer: You may find nothing of interest in my music. I know that these songs have much more meaning to me than they will ever have to anyone else. They all remind me of the various times in my life when I was writing them. So, to me, they're much bigger that just a collection of notes - they're lots of important memories of people and places and experiences. So, for what it's worth...
