Prologue: What Is A Nerd?

Hey Nerds!

For our inaugural episode, we thought it would be a great idea to sit down and review Pokémon Go. We have been playing since it came out and have a lot of notes and thoughts to share with all you nerds! We hope that we can help educate people who have no idea what Pokémon Go is as well as give you our most honest opinion on what two real Poké-nerds think about it.

Brush off your "Jaws" laserdisc and power up your Atari 2600: it's time to get nostalgic about the 80s. Join Meredith and Presley as they chat about the new Netflix original series "Stranger Things," a spooky, sci-fi story of an Indiana boy who goes missing in 1983. With its retro, synth-laden soundtrack and myriad Dungeons and Dragons references, the show is so filled with 80s nostalgia that the creators easily could have named it "Stand by M-E.T." Your resident nerds are here to discuss all things "Stranger Things": the Upside Down, the Demagorgon, and why the beautiful, popular girl shouldn't always end up with the dorky, underdog guy. Oh yeah, and Winona Ryder. Winona forever.

Beam us up, Scotty!! In celebration of this week's release of "Star Trek Beyond," Meredith and Presley discuss one of the most influential franchises in all of nerdom: Star Trek. Tune in as they discuss what color Star Fleet uniform they would wear (gold, red, or blue?), the proper name for a Star Trek fan (is it Trekker or Trekkie?), and their favorite villain in the reboot films (Khan, Nero, Marcus, or Krall?) Plus, Presley quizzes Meredith on Star Trek trivia. Spoiler alert: it does not go well!! Ep. 4: Star Trek Beyond

Hi Nerds!! 
Grab your owls, wands, and robes and run blindly towards Platform 9 3/4!! Presley and Meredith are taking the Hogwarts Express this week and it's going to be a wild ride. That's right: we read "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child" so you don't have to! JK Rowling officially sanctioned--but did not write--this new Harry Potter play, set 19 years after "The Deathly Hallows" ended. The play follows Harry's son, Albus, and Draco's son, Scorpius, as they steal a time turner on a mission to save Cedric Diggory's life and destroy the entire "Harry Potter" canon as we know it! If that sounds like bad fan fiction, that's because that's basically what this is. Forget everything you thought you knew about your favorite characters, because this play rewrites them in the most unflattering ways possible! Join your favorite nerds as they break down all the ways this play went wrong. Plus, they share very special "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child" horoscopes!!

Ep. 6: No Man's Sky

Hi Nerds!! 

This week, all of us here at Nerd Chat were devastated when we heard the tragic news of Gene Wilder’s passing. In honor of Wilder, this episode is all about one of his greatest films (and our favorite creepy “children’s” movie): the 1971 cult classic, “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.” Join us as we discuss the most delicious looking treats in Wonka’s candy room, those iconic (and strange) literary references, and which annoying child we would most like to punch. Plus, we attempt to answer some of the film’s greatest unanswered questions! Why is everything in Wonka’s office cut in half? Why is Charlie’s school teacher Mr. Turkentine so utterly inept?? And most importantly, why isn’t the “glass elevator” made of glass????? 

The suspense is terrible. We hope it lasts.
