Ahead of our first ever show in Vilnius, we wanted to give our readers a little taster of everything the famed nightspot is about. Check out this mix by residents Siaubas, and a Q&A with Vidmantas, the clubs booker, below.

RA: How would you describe your music policy?

V: It’s the making of salad. Quite a special salad indeed. Some ingredients are at your hands already, some have to be imported and you also have to mind the tastes, preferences and expectations of the clientèle. It’s a delicate act of balancing things out. I try to keep the programming adventurous without going too niche and too obvious at the same time. We’re the baddest club of the country so we have to bring them Dixons and KiNKs from time to time to keep the crowd pleased and it’s self esteem high, whilst building the core of the program around cool cats like Otologic, Beau Wanzer, Multi Culti, Elena Colombi, DJ Sundae and the likes, as well as our unshakable residents of course.

RA: What makes a great party?

V: We say a good party is the one you don’t remember. Hence the no photo and video policy at some of the best clubs in the world. You just can not capture it on tape. Not that easy to describe in words too. It’s all about energy and surprise factor I would say. The most memorable nights happen when something out of ordinary occurs - unexpected musical selection or line-up combination, unplanned super long set, explosive mix of the crowd, etc. You can not plan these things really. It’s a kind of magic. We know it was a good party when our inbox is booming of lost item requests on Monday.  

RA: Do you feel like the venue stands for anything, and if so, how do you express that?

V: Our venue stands for total eclipse of the heart. And the brain for that matter. We never announce set times because we want people to come for the night and for the full-on club experience, rather than one particular artist or a set. Some of our events get announced without full line ups. We trust the instincts of our crowd and they trust ours. Add eclectic, dark and sleazy sound to the equation and see what you get. A roller disco in Twin Peaks or an illegal rave at the set of 2001: A Space Odyssey. 

RA: What’s the greatest problem facing club culture in your city? 

V: Slowing down event economy, rapidly growing prices, increasing or just never ending emigration, police raids, Medieval Period like drug policies and attitudes, escalating competition with no rules whatsoever when your sound and event concepts get copied, residents get chased, and free entrance events with international guests and top local talent are being thrown. Also it gets increasingly hard to work international bookings. Fees are skyrocketing, artists and their agents aren’t giving a damn about the size of your club and economy, asking for more and more each and every time you approach them. I’ve started sending out the links to economic data like GDP and income per capita to agents to get more realistic deals. With no big effect I have to admit. But every challenge is also an opportunity they say. We’re planning to spend even more of our time, money and attention on up and coming artists and cool old-timers still looking for good fun, not only good pay.  

RA: What’s your favourite memory of the night?

V: There is a sweet spot at the end of the room, right behind the bar, kind of viewpoint where team members usually come when they want to check where’s the party at. You see the DJ, the dance floor and the bar from there. And if standing there, slightly removed from the centre of the action, I get carried away by the waves of energy and feel like falling down and disappearing into some kind of a rabbit hole, I know it’s one hell of the party. I totally love that feeling, countless memories of it and the prospect of experiencing it again and again.

PRÉMIÈRE: OTTO - Idyll [Orgaton]

Themes For Divided Tribes Vol. 2 is the second EP of edits and reworks from @DEKADENZrecords. DEKADENZ is a record label and club night in Jakarta, run by Jonathan Kusuma, Aditya Permana, Ridwan Susanto & Benedict Pardede. The club night has had featured guests such as Dreems, Thomas Von Party, Manfredas, Switchdance, Simple Symmetry and Timothy Clerkin creating a new home for underground techno, leftfield house, new electronic pop and tribal-krautrock. 

This EP opens with Bangkok based @SunjuHargun who has released on leading imprints such as Turbo Recordings amongst others.  Here he has crafted a mutant slow burner that drives you into the abyss. An abyss filled with molecular structures playing the role of a melody trying to escape the world of divided tribes. Sunju Hargun once again fuses the grey area space between the music of the body and mind.
