DJ JM - Abnormal EP

Abnormal is the sound of DJ JM ratcheting it up a notch, both in production-value and musical creativity. The title itself stands as a compact explainer of DJ JM's constant sonic assignment – Abnormal consolidates years of JM's work to keep club music weird and unexpected. Retaining the chunky percussion and quick-stepping rhythms he built his name on, the EP also contains intricate, cleverly designed sound-beds, and extends the menacing electro-techno swagger DJ JM began exploring on his previous No Days Off and Squash EPs.

Preferring synths over samples, Abnormal is filled with sudden bursts of psychedelic melody, off-kilter audio-manipulations and bubbling acid-trip basslines. The tracks also have a subtle but distinctly Lithuanian edge, drawing influence from the iterative, morphing patterns of the folk symbols and insignia carved into the remains of ancient settlements near Vilnius.
'Syze' bounces melodic percussive riffs across an arpeggiated bassline, with synth flourishes and talking drums squeezed in between. 'Pepper' has DJ JM's trademark high-energy vocal chants and a thick, slamming bassline. The title track, 'Abnormal', is perhaps the most stripped back, building a weighty atmosphere through increasingly choppy perc stabs. 'Erazer' closes out the EP with ducking filtered pads and sliding scales through an industrial rhythm section. Each one stands as a "wtf was that?!" set highlight, a vortex of wild ideas in a club-primed package.

Fetus, who has been gaining more attention with releases on Turing, the label he co-hosts with Oyubi, and on TREKKIE TRAX, will be released on 85acid.

The album begins with Wave Wave with its uplifting bass arpeggio, followed by Martian with its unique breaks and organic vibes. The title track, Flat W, showcases an even kick, and closes with Bug Bait, one of the most functional DJ tools on the album, with precise programming and sound design backed by Drum'n'Bass' experience. The ultimate club tool has been completed.

Noise Casino debuts on Artificio with «Pa», a three-track EP that pushes the boundaries of club music. This release marks a significant step in his sonic evolution, weaving a cohesive narrative through a blend of bass-heavy beats, broken rhythms, and intricate percussions capturing the essence of Noise Casino's Colombian roots while channeling contemporary club influences.

«Pa» opens with its namesake track, a dark, immersive journey driven by distorted bass lines and dynamic percussive elements. «Siquiera» follows, layering nostalgic samples from Colombian cinema and commercials over a textured soundscape, creating a deeply resonant and resourceful composition. The EP concludes with «Triple A», a high-energy track that fuses propulsive beats with Latin percussion, designed to ignite the dance floor. Each track showcases Noise Casino's innovative approach, delivering a fresh and captivating experience in the realm of experimental club music.

Long time Nervous Horizon affiliate DJ JM is back on the imprint with a new essential club EP titled ‘Barrakuda’.

Marking the Lithuanian artist's third release on Nervous Horizon, after last year’s ‘Abnormal’ EP, ‘Barrakuda’ is perhaps the greatest expression to date of a confident and refined rawness that DJ JM has become known for.

Composed as a frenzied collection of club cuts bearing the quintessential playful swagger of JM’s attack-drum style, Barrakuda’s freneticism is alleviated and accentuated through diverse drum steps and highly attitudinal melodics.The title track’s rolling percussive groove and warping crescendos which open the EP are followed by the fluctuating arpeggiated synths of the bristolian-tech influenced ‘Charge’. A driving tribal electro groove accompanied by a catchy 4/4 beep melody make “Swilling’’ a captivating club anthem, while the striped back electro warper ‘Unzyp’ reaches the edges of the industrial sonic realm with house accents and wailing sirens. The eerie mood of the proto-tribal-house inspired ‘Winted’ is the perfect lead to Barrakuda EP’s closing track ‘Sygnal’, which features label head TSVI and rounds the EP on a more straight up techno note, bearing all the hallmarks of the pair's respective signature sounds.
