As a culminating project to our study of classic rock the grade 4 and 5's decided to go back to 1980, crank up the xylophones and play some AC/DC. Here's is their rendition of the song Back in Black.

To celebrate National Aboriginal day the grade 4's jumped behind the hand drums and created this 3/4 time signature to the beautiful voice of Fawn Wood. Enjoy.

Here's a fun version of The Tokens classic "The Lion Sleeps Tonight". The vocals were performed by the grade 4 classes. The instruments were played by the grade 5's. Enjoy!

In the Stoney language the word "Ina" is a maternal figure and "Ade" is a paternal figure. Phonetically "Oh Da Wah Ta Beach" means a big feast. "Arn Ga Bee Te Jun" means a new year. Our Kindergarten friends wish you all a happy holiday season!

Here is the story of Mickey and the Beanstalk read by the grade 2 and 3 classes in celebration of Family Literacy Day.

The grade 4's created this project to examine the differences in tempo (the speed of a song)and illustrate how tempo can change the "feeling" of a composition.
Using the nursery rhyme "Itsy Bitsy Spider" we begin with Largo (a very slow tempo), transition to Andante (a moderately slow tempo) and finish with Presto (a very fast tempo).

According to the Stoney fable, the animals agree that a longer winter season was unacceptable. The Frog (Taberhan) was insistent that winter be 7 months long. "Let it be 7".

Let It Be (Grade 4)

According to the Stoney story about the origins of winter, the beaver (Cha Ba) became very annoyed at Taberhan, lost her cool and knocked Taberhan out. We feel she could have made some alternative choices.

Treat Frog Better (grade 5)

This song was composed by the grade 5's. They reworked Elton Johns song "I Guess That's Why They Call it the Blues" so it would summarize our 2017 Christmas concert, "The Origins of the Winter Season'. Enjoy.

This year students made a movie about the Stoney fable, "The Origins of the Winter Season". The narrators are a collection of grade 3&4 students. They were lead by our Stoney cultural teacher Albertine Goodstoney. Enjoy and MERRY CHRISTMAS!

The Origin Of Winter AUDIO BOOK

In late October the grade 5's decided to submit a video for this years CBC Music Class Challenge. This is a national contest that happens every fall. Classes select a Canadian song from a predetermined list and record a video showcasing their talents. The grade 5's chose the Sean Mendes song "Treat You Better." Under a strict timeline they modified the vocals, learned the melody on keys and xylophones and restructured the song to allow for pow wow dancing and drumming (a Stoney flare that was inspired by the Juno award winning DJ's "A Tribe Called Red").  Shortly after submitting their video they discovered that, out of 140 video submissions in their category, they had earned a place in the top 10. We are VERY proud of their efforts and hard work. You dedication has been an inspiration to all of us. Well done grade 5's!! Here is the Youtube link to their video submission.
