MNMT Label Showcase : Non Series

Massimiliano, aka @Viels was born in a little city outside Milan, Italy. Early in his adolescence, he discovered techno culture inspired by a book called “TECHNO“ by Christian Zingales. Having released his first EP on Initial Berlin in 2015, Viels continued his musical path, appearing with a track on the well-respected Dutch imprint Dynamic Reflection, followed by his debut ep “Distrophism”, and contributing to the 10th anniversary of the label, among some of the most recognised artists in the scene: Donato Dozzy, Mike Parker, Shifted, Oscar Mulero, Blawan, Ness, Jeroen Search and many more. 
Co-owner with Francesco della Sala of “End Of Perception”, Viels just released on labels such Warm Up, Non Series, Semantica Records, Mord, Edit Select and Dynamic Reflection.
Currently, resident at the well-known Acquario party in Milan and with increasing interest and having performed in quality line-ups around the globe, with the likes of Reeko, Oscar Mulero and Dasha Rush to name a few, Viels is establishing himself as part of a new wave of DJs and producers approaching the contemporary techno scene.

☉ Palpebræ Mix 02: Hoedus [ @hoedus ]

Hoedus is a DJ and producer from the eternal city Rome that established himself in the electronic music scene under his former name OWL, before rebranding himself as Hoedus. His journey through electronic music began at a young age refining his skills by playing at various local clubs in Rome, eventually becoming the resident DJ at the popular party Algoritmo. By exploring various genres, he found his musical foundation in ambient and techno, two styles that greatly influenced his future productions and led him to release his music on labels such as Non Series, Semantica, Mental Modern and Monday Off. Hoedus draws inspiration from nature and his city, navigating between analog and digital machines to create experimental and hypnotic sounds that incorporate both ethereal and meditative phases of ambient/drone music, as well as strong tones of techno, using a unified language that reflects his unique style.

About the mix:
“I must admit, finding new tracks that truly resonate with me has become quite a challenge lately. The musical landscape seems to have shifted towards sounds that don't fully satisfy my musical tastes. That's why I've decided to include some older tracks in this mix, like those by Vakula, who I consider a genius. Social media has revolutionized the way music is made, but in my opinion, it has also introduced a certain degree of homogenization. Nowadays, it's a fact that a producer/DJ's career hinges more on online visibility than on the quality of their productions. The number of posts, followers, and interactions: it all matters more than the ability to create something truly original. It's a shame, because it risks losing sight of what has always made techno music so special for me: its ability to innovate. Who's to blame? I think it's a bit of everyone's fault. Artists, the audience, and bookers. Artists should strive for originality and experiment with new sounds, audiences should be open to exploring diverse genres and supporting emerging talent, and bookers should prioritize quality and diversity in their bookings. I firmly believe we're in a cyclical phase within the techno scene. I'm convinced that sooner or later we'll witness a resurgence of originality and experimentation, and that new artists and new sounds will emerge, bringing a fresh breeze.”

SWC delivers a live techno improvisation, with drum machines, modular synthesizers and other music machines to offer a unique and immersive sound experience.

Hailing from Argentina's capital city of Buenos Aires, deep techno artist Pulso is on an experimental journey that challenges conventional musical structures. With hypnotic analog sound structures, Pulso's music takes us on a fantastic journey that engages the mind and body at the same time. 
Since founding the SRIE label with Translate in 2013 and releasing numerous EP albums, Pulso has become a named producer in the deep techno scene, with releases on world-renowned labels such as KEY vinyl, Evod Music, Mindtrip, and Semantica. In 2018, he released his first full-length album 'Los Mismos Dolores' (SRIE/2018), followed by 'Diving The Recovery Tales' (Dystant Recordings/2020), the double CD album 'Pun-to De Quiebre' (Subsist/2020) and 'Don't be Ready' (Semantica/2022), Relative Scope (Evod Music/2022) - a collaboration with Translate, and Equivalencias De Campo (Semantica/2024) - a collaboration with Jonas Kopp, Pulso has been flying high with his own deep and vast musical universe.

Cio Dorbandt is a part of German techno’s furniture. Born in Hannover, she can now be found in Cologne, while over the course of a lengthy career she has stamped her mark on cities across the country, and many other spots further afield. Made a resident at Munich’s infamous Ultraschall in 2001, she had also spent much of her youth pursuing her aspiration to become a dancer in ‘80s Berlin—a place she now frequents for gigs at the likes of Berghain, Tresor, and ://about blank​, following a wave of international recognition in the late ‘00s.

With years of experience behind the decks, studio work came a little later for Dorbandt. Releasing on Prologue, Semantica and more, her sound as Cio D'Or was recognized as central in a wave of minimal, hypnotic techno producers, encompassing characters like Mike Parker, Sleeparchive and Donato Dozzy (with whom she has often worked alongside). More recently, she has turned her attention to a broader spectrum of styles, bouncing between dub and ambient soundscapes, with the focus directed on sound design. Her most recent album, All In All, was some of her most experimental work yet, diving head first into a world of piano composition and cinematic music, as well as the regular dancefloor fodder. Not prepared to confine her talents to record though, she has also orchestrated a choreography project alongside Brigitta Muntendorf entitled PULSA:RE, combining the work of an ensemble with a DJ set—yet another string on her musical bow. D’Or steps up for this week’s podcast, with a dramatic hour long mix of experimental techno sounds that gives a sense of where she is at right now.
