Captured during the Wood Shop Rehearsal Sessions, late May, 2018. This was just after everyone meeting together for the first time, and I had picked up Amber and Dallas from the Mill Bay Ferry, just an hour or two before, and it was the first time we all played together on something.

The Great Regression -"First Love" Woodshop Rehearsal

War-torn industrial, experimental jazz, and visceral ambience are unified under the banner of Military Genius, an audiovisual outlet that mirrors the political and existential turmoil of our times. Spreading a message of peace amidst the turbulence, Military Genius blends free-form noise and rigid composition, producing abstract, meditative representations of real-life experience.
 
"Focus", the first official single, wanders aimlessly in darkness and solitude, an exploration of internal conflict, a submission to the melancholy bliss of pure abandon. Warped bass, piercing harmonica, and disorienting keyboards move through a haze of shape-shifting jazz. Circular melodies turn around and around like smoke, swelling to culminate in a harmonious dance that fades into nothingness.
 
Taking equal inspiration from Ennio Morricone's sublime cinematic touch to William Burroughs' technological avant-garde, Military Genius rearranges familiar sounds in new and unexpected ways. As a first single under this moniker, "Focus" provides a center of attention, an ambitious point of departure hinting at a whole world of possibility.

Booms and Claps favorite OAKK AKA Cole Edwards of Calgary, Canada has had a hell of a year. His production output was incredible, ranging from a host of Soundcloud singles to his debut EP on China's Unchained Records to his recent edit pack "Remixes & Edits Vol. 1." His tour appearances were nothing short of impressive, hitting legendary North American mainstays from Denver's Black Box Theatre to Canada's Shambhala Music Festival. He even topped it off with a well-received and swaggy Boiler Room appearance at Bass Coast Music Festival, alongside big names like Sam Binga, Kahn, and The Librarian.

To tie up an amazing 2019, today marks the self-release of his latest offering, the "Ellipsis EP". The release checks all the boxes we've come to expect from OAKK: R&B tinged head-nodders, wonky hip-hop beats, and even a dancefloor banger or two. In our opinion, this is definitely some of his best work yet and represents a culmination of the progress and growth OAKK has made over the past couple years as a producer.
