Started this several years ago, it was the only file most resembling bits of a 'song' on my experiments with the gameboy...before I started dabbling in music elsewhere. Interesting to come back to & rework. This cart no longer connects to PC, so it's been a fun adventure to let this track evolve into something I can export, before the new cart & equipment arrive and I get distracted again. Enjoy.

SIDDEMO

Little test run & playing with the YM2162 chip I yanked out of a dead Genesis (still dirty and not in the gritty synth way - not sure if that is the cause of all the hiss, sorry).

This DAFM synth from Kasser Synths was intimidating at first but is fairly intuitive and lets you explore the synth's sounds without heavy 'menu diving.' Also familiarizing myself with the keystep pro as more than just a MIDI controller via its step sequencer

All in all just glad the chip works, seems legitimate ones are getting hard to come by

YM2162DEMO

Really enjoying playing with Nanoloop, known about it for years but opted for the LSDJ route many ages ago...not realizing at the time (and also, money) that it's not an either/or. LSDJ and Nanoloop operate entirely differently, the latter being a step sequencer as opposed to LSDJ's tracker interface. Initially had reservations on a GBA version vs. original DMG GameBoy sound hardware, until discovering the GBA offers sounds the DMG can't..thus just another instrument to add & learn :)

Nanoloop2DEMO

Continuing this series of exploring these instruments' sounds...the nanoloop mono has been an interesting one. The cart has its own synth built into itself, so doesn't use the Gameboy sound hardware. Creates this familiar yet unknown territory to play in. Utilized many of the nanoloop features this go-round as well, thanks in part to exploring the nano and finding sounds out of it.

This demo has sparks of it that I'd like to explore more with the mono, but goal here is exploring the instruments in their own sandbox before I start picking which sounds from each to use together, etc. Mono's certainly been a learning experience creating via 3 mono channels (noise/click/rectangle wave). At points you can even hear some of the native distortion and degradation (?) when some sounds are, what I can imagine as, fighting over resources to generate audio

backing acoustic melody has been part of my warm-up/ acoustic jams past few years. very likely will be re-utilized elsewhere/ built upon this further. just had to get something recorded. bit of Kitaro vibes in here too; fitting.
