“I fucking love this song, that SNARE!” Sonny Moore exclaims of the new single from Los Angeles producer @AWE, out today, January 12th on NEST.

2014 marked the rise of AWE, whose ties with beatsmith collective, Team Supreme, catapulted the LA native into a string of impressive releases (Griffin, 613, Crystals) that resonated across the dance music spectrum – receiving nods from the likes of Hudson Mohawke, Sigur Ros and Annie Mac among others.

“Top Gun” acts as the next step in AWE’s burgeoning career, exploring new creative yet cohesive sounds in a 1986 meets 2015 blowout. Influenced in name and sound by the classic 80s flick, the single pairs floaty throwback synth builds with mammoth bass and woodblock breakdowns. But while the song pays homage to the past, AWE’s adept production points solely to the future – leading a bright light for what’s to come in 2015.
