They are here, all over: sudden, random molecular movements. Invisible and yet extremely effective. Perceptible only to those who turn on things from a peculiar outlook. Now R.i.O. unfolds the second edition of “Risks Issues Opportunities”, bringing interstellar musical developments full of little, yet profound molecule advances. Eight mystical fate spinners, with the muscle to shed some light on unanswered questions, that will stay unanswered after all.
Monolithic, yet deeply fragile compositions, made by terrestrials like Leipzig based producer Syncboy, Pannotia from Sydney, Italy based dusty drum machines lovers Twoonky, Charlotte Simon, known as one half of the art duo Les Trucs from Frankfurt, Berlin mystic’s like Airaboi or Nadia D'Alò of the duo INIT, Brooklyn based “The Thing” housekeeper Willie Burns and Vienna’s symbolist sound poet Bocksrucker. They all created electric signs for the above. Murky analogue prophesiers without prophecy, bringing headway music against the greedy frontier spirit. Hypnotic tones out of a hazy musical outer space. Like a dream that forgot to dream, they wave around with veiled frequencies full of ray, processed through analogue machine power. Music, that is able to in sight humans to an Atget photography. Able to transmit flashes to the firmament, to stars that wander darkling in eternal space. And
yes: to some who listen a sudden physical movement might transpire, despite the fact that all was made without a particular practical value. Art for art's sake. In favor of an alternative to reality. Compellingly haunted by itself. Like stone, that awaits a random molecular movement.

Duo Lucas Brell and Marvin Uhde deliver six fire-powered percussion tracks to Osàre! Editions. Longtime friends and collaborators, the pair channel a liquid medley of drum menace that flips sideways, swiftly pivoting between 85 and 170 bpm. As disorientating as it is formidable, “Purest State Confusion” offers up a fractal prism of ever-shifting beat patterns – an endlessly warping vortex, where the continuum of jungle and drum and bass fuses with a guttural, tribalist sound.

The titular number, a wormhole techno ordeal, builds steadily, layer upon layer. A crystalline dancefloor pleaser, it subverts classic four-to-the-floor with a delayed kick drum that punctuates every 8th beat. Like black oil diffusing in water, the bass creeps in menacingly to 'The Disappearer', in hard and fast contrast with the sharp fluctuations of the amen break. 

Slamming in mercilessly, 'Channelling Bryn Jones' opens up the B-side, its fluttering rhythms joining together with an infectious klaxon melody before the IDM-stylings of ‘Brain Massage' closes out. Purest State of Confusion was recorded at various locations in Leipzig and Berlin, including at the shed-turned-studio, owned by the bass-focused record label Fast Castle. 

Final touches and mixing assistance were performed by Mike Bierbach AKA rødhåd at the WSNWG studios. The pioneering techno producer inflects the record with his staunch taste for aerobic club rhythmics, teasing out the whirling tempos and pointillistic harmonics.

In a somehow groovy, hypnotic and unsettling way, the Italian producer's acid-laced "Stress Points" challenges and splices the tension between rough organic vibes and cold synthetic configurations.

Almost a decade after its first release, Bologna-based Italian electronic music producer Davide Nicosia, a.k.a. Acid Youth (@acid-youth), returns on MFZ Records (@mfzrecs) with the album "Darkness Is Not Easy".
This new work is the result of years of research and refinement in defining an aesthetic that merges the acid imagery with the song form and melody.
Alongside the usual suspects (808, 303, analog and digital synthesizers), new acoustic and electric elements (drums, guitar, bass) are introduced. The result of this mix is a personal reinterpretation of the sounds from the '90s alternative music scene.
The rhythmic precision of the synthetic elements guides melodic structures characterized by human imperfections. Fuzz guitars go with the acid lines of the 303, while drums mix up with the analog percussions of the 808.
The album’s tracks blend techno atmospheres, shoegaze moods, acid psychedelia and drone expansions.
"Darkness Is Not Easy" is a musical journey accessible to anyone who doesn’t particularly care about strict boundaries between musical genres; a path to be taken without preconceived notions or bias of any kind.
