Despite not knowing each other before, electroacoustic composer Guglielmo Diana and multidisciplinary artist Gustavo Cambareri, aka Lefka, join forces and nicely complement one another via skewed electronics in the third release curated by Neanche Per Sogno.
NXS003 opens with two tracks composed by Guglielmo Diana, who masterfully creates two magmatic distillations extracted from a maximalist sound palette of field recordings and hard digital processing of concrete samples. Through exhausting micro agglomerations, he forges frenetic visceral narratives that dynamically traverse various emotional states.
The arrival of Lefka and his distinctive multi-layering oversaturation turns out to be the emotional turning point where two dazzling streams of light, originating from the same sound source, converge blindingly in full spectrum toward the listener's eyes.

Blind Spot

“I’ve put together a forty-minute collage of archival recordings, primarily sourced from the few remaining cassette tapes and VHS recordings of Tecnopizzica studio sessions and live performances from the 1990s in Salento, South-East Italy. These now largely forgotten experiments, which I’ve been researching since 2018, aimed to digitise Pizzica Salentina—the region’s traditional high-energy folk music and dance—by blending it with synths and FX using some of the first commercially available computers.
A couple of years ago, I ripped most of these tapes in the mix, and for the first time, I am sharing some of the audio tracks from the VHS cassettes, even if they may sound a bit raw! The mix also includes three (probably finished) unreleased tracks I have made over the past year or so. Some of the other selections include an iconic recording of a live jam downloaded from YouTube featuring frame drum player Roberto Chiga and DJ Gruff scratching to the rhythm of Pizzica, at an event held at Leoncavallo, in Milan, not far from the Invernomuto HQ, in 2010.” (Agostino Quaranta)

Agostino Quaranta (Bari, Italy, 1994) is a London-based visual artist, DJ, and music producer. In 2023, he released two EPs on Le Chatroom and Hundebiss, drawing inspiration from both imaginary and factual memories of Tecnopizzica—a micro-history of forgotten early ’90s attempts to computerize Puglia’s traditional music style, Pizzica Salentina. Since 2018, he has led Turbo Sud, a curatorial project documenting Southern Italy’s contemporary and traditional music scenes through archival and experimental interventions.

Bristol-based @k_means operates at the fringes of electronic music. It's not tempo and genre that unites their sound, but more an exploration of mood and texture underpinned by bass-heavy low ends and hypnotic rhythms. The Noods, Rinse FM and Kiosk Radio regular is also resident at Bristol's Psychotherapy Sessions and will debut at Dekmantel Festival where you should fully expect to be taken into plenty of unknown musical territory.

It is the same with their mix for us this week - a wild trip into futuristic drum patterns and interplanetary sounds that melt the mind and contort the body. There is a constant push and pull between the organic and the synthetic with tribal percussion and warped vocals brushing up with bleeping synth modulations and experimental minimalism. It's a magnetic selection that's as much an imaginary movie soundtrack as it is a dance floor escape.
