"One of the many characteristics of the mouras is their ability to transform into snakes or to have relationships with these types of animals. The snake is an animal with much symbolic weight in multiple traditions. The most common, due to the evangelizing power of Christianity, is that of sin. But the symbolism that interests us is more related to gender and change. Due to its phallic shape, the snake is related to virility and the masculine, but due to its ability to dilate when swallowing, it is also related to the ability to engender and what is traditionally understood as feminine. Furthermore, the fact that it sheds its skin every year also relates it to cycles of change.
For all these reasons, this track presents and discusses the trans and non-binary experience from the perspective of the shapeshifting MOURAE who, like the snake, can shed its skin to transcend its own identity."
