Mehmet Aslan follows last year's Domo single with a return to Planisphere Editorial for a new single in collaboration with prolific percussionist & performer Valentina Magaletti. ‘Garden’ finds the polymath musicians in organic and pristine form, drawing from their own experimentations with the form as well as influences such as Mark Hollis and Talk Talk's most austere and compelling work.

Known for her work with Nicolas Jaar and Charles Hayward, as well as her more regular in celebrated British psych band Vanishing Twin, Magaletti’s impermeable technique provides the ideal, watertight structure for Aslan’s tumbling, psychedelia-tinted electronics. Nocturnal and almost noirish in texture, Garden’s sophisticated arrangement offers a tantalizing glimpse into the atmosphere of Aslan’s upcoming and much-awaited debut album 'The Sun Is Parallel', due on Planisphere Editorial later in November 2022.

Mix of the Week #449: Giorgio Lopez - Radio Lido Florida vol. 2

@StampTheWax welcomed me onboard their Diggers Directory series and so I put together a selection of music from my travels and from home. I could not be more flattered they asked me and I hope you enjoy :)

The first collector to introduce her/himself on "5918mins.“ is "exte82“ aka veterinarian Üllar Siir from Tallinn, Estonia. Üllar delivers 72 minutes of Rare Psych (aka those 7inches that you only come across once in your life-time, if ever). Within the mix, he proves his uncompromising commitment to music, far detached from genre-hypes. 

While he is certainly one of the most-respected out there (just ask Soul-fanatico Jeremy Underground),  we found Üllar’s focus on the essence of what it means to be a music-collector particularly impressive. Üllar digs completely in his own realm. His taste is so distinct that we even got into the habit of describing certain music as "exte-type-records“. Together with his ability to casually pull out tracks that leave you speechless (e.g. 3rd track in this mix), it was instantly clear that he had to do the first mix in this project (and we’re very happy it came together!).

Chee Shimizu has a kind of Zen approach to things, including records. In an interview with Aaron Coultate, Chee remarked: “I don't feel the need to own stuff. I don't get joy from owning records. I'm just happy to listen to them, not to own them.”. And we are happy to share this mix with you: The highly-esteemed Tokyo selector joined Phantom Island’s very own Kejeblos at Kraftfeld in Winterthur. Feel-good summer vibes for everyone.
