In our latest "Delayed with..." installment, we are thrilled to present a mix that comes straight from the heart of the UK, courtesy of the dynamic collective and record label Simpler Times.

Hailing from the vibrant nexus of Sheffield and Manchester, Simpler Times is a group of four close friends who have been making waves in deep and emotive electronic music since 2020. Their journey began with the release of "Wrong Conversations," a project that featured tracks from three of their talented members. Not too long ago, we premiered the "Full Circle" track by David, part of the "Moments EP," which quickly found its way into the crates of DJs worldwide.

The mix they've prepared for us exudes a bright yet melancholic atmosphere, setting the perfect tone for an emotional musical journey. Imagine yourself on a hazy dance floor as the sun dips below the horizon and the panoramic cityscape unfolds. This musical escapade promises to carry you from the afternoon into the tranquil beauty of a sunset.

Delayed with... Simpler Times

Rooted in those rare moments of tranquility throughout a parent’s life, Early Color is the auditory memoir of Griff through his time as a stay-at-home dad to a growing toddler making sense of the world. Conceptually, the album is laid out as a natural progression starting with the beautiful field recordings of ‘Zoom Deck’ and warm melody of ‘Hemmed’, both evoking visions of a hazy, forest morning, slowly waking up after night’s embrace. Shaking off the slumber, ‘Steel Wool’ provides an energetic start to the day as most children tend to do, to the dismay of some parents. Followed by the understated grooves of ‘Bubby & the Submersible’.

Approaching the second half of the album, ‘Trace Fossil’ and ‘Atoll’ kick things into gear with ear-worm-like melodies that build and build throughout into an emotional trip, while ‘FGH’ brings a more melancholic take. Capping off the string of four on the floor tracks is the growling ‘Why Yellow’, a more serious number that would fit well in many a dj set. Alighting from the burst of energy, we have the breakish beats of ‘Resnooze’, whose warm bass-lines and wide ranging synths envelop the listener. Finally arriving at the last track, the aptly named ‘Sitting Quietly Looking at Things’ is a musical combination of all that was prior. Emotive, textured, impactful, as the spoken word sampled lends such an air to the track.

Early Color’s artwork was also created by Griff, through a series of layered scans and is evocative of both his music, and the visual direction of Never Late. As a collection of personal moments, sounds, experiences will be key to future releases, as we strive to find the best expression of each artist that we work with.
