We are proud and extremely humbled to present to you our very first release, "Unveiled" by rising German starlet "Phil".

Phil is based in Mainz not to far from Frankfurt home to the legendary club Robert Johnson. An astute music connoisseur who selects every instrument he uses with care and caresses every tone as if his life depended upon it. On listening to the three original tracks served up by Phil you instantly get a feel for this young artists character and musical vision. Also a very keen vinyl enthusiast it is no surprise that Phil has landed an internship at Freebase Records.

We welcome Phil into the Steppers & Sleepers family and look forward to working with him again in the near future.

On Remix duty we have [anon.] label and Othertones Records Co-owner, Dan Farserelli who needs no introduction. The Londoner is an integral part of the cities underground scene, and one of few who can say they have played in all three rooms at fabric and we hope you enjoy his Tresor style remix of "No Surroundings".

For our second release we present to you Worcester (uk) based producer 'Noid (uk)' with his debut release entitled "Travel". 

Noid (uk) is a far cry from your usual bedroom producer finding there sound. A peculiar soul to the untrained eye and it is only when you divulge deeper into Noid's (uk) background you learn this is a DJ at heart with a wealth of experience behind the decks under his previous alias "Mogs" which spanned over a decade with residencies affording him the luxury of sharing floors with Reboot, Steve Bug & Dinky in his pomp. 

Today Noid (uk) has rekindled his desire and love for music. He trains to play the piano and is working towards constructing a full live set. 

We welcome Noid (uk) into our family and we certainly hope this promising producer scales the heights of yesteryear very soon. 

The first of our two remixes is a ultra dub interpretation by Tomas Rubeck hailing from the Midlands (UK) where post industrial decay fringes with an idyllic rural backdrop, with an ear for detailed production and a self confessed perfectionist when it comes to sound design and artistic flare, it is clear as to why his records seem refreshingly different. 

The second remix comes from the Sofian powerhouse, Alexandar Kyosev who needs no introduction. His discography breathes quality over quantity and we are extremely excited and honored to have Alexandar on our second release providing this dance floor stepper.

Our third release comes from label head Augustus Gloop with his piece titled 'The Perfect Scandal'. If you are unfamiliar with Augustus Gloop, he is a self proclaimed hip hop enthusiast. Early exposure to East Coast hip hop really underpins his tenacious, uncompromising delivery and production style. Augustus is a purist and a romantic at heart and his vision for the imprints trajectory is simple. The path of Steppers & Sleepers shall be shaped by carefully empowered emerging artists, whom endeavour to stay true to there deeply rooted soul and see conforming as nothing other than the undoing of creativity and individuality.

We think our re-mixer certainly fits this billing as we present to you the first lady of Steppers & Sleepers, London based Bunni Splanchnik. Bunni is a throwback to the traditional micro house technicians of the 90's and with her plying her trade as a visual artist by day it is of no surprise to us that she is able to instill her experimental nature into her production. Bunni's remix captures her style spectacularly, brimming with funk and a supremely charismatic bounce. We welcome the 'Lab Noir' co-founder into our ever expanding family and we look forward to presenting more of her experimental micro house to you in the very near future.

COVER MIX: Bicep Presents: We Love Space

The fourth release on the Steppers & Sleepers imprint is from the Romanian based Idri. His EP 'Steps Toward Bliss' captures his smooth and elegant style wonderfully. Idri focuses on suggestion and atmosphere, conveying the moods and emotions aroused by the subject rather than a detailed tone-picture. His style depicts sound as color meaning his deep chords, lo-fi vocals and obscure atmosphere are his brush strokes, accentuating the effects of the passage of time. Idri serves up an honest impression of how he portrays house in its minimalist of forms.

On remix duty for us is Iris. G, a relatively unknown producer but one with a growing back catalog of unreleased gems, many would have previously heard, but unable to attach the name of the culprit to the workings. The anonymous UK based producer is colorfully deep and emotively soulful with his craft and one to look out for in due course.

These two talented producers caught our ears as solo artists first hand (https://soundcloud.com/gregorydub & https://soundcloud.com/safak-rarebeats) and as we dug deeper we learned that they also produced as a duo. Gregory and Safak have been friends for near on a decade and they are heavily inspired buy 4x4 house from way back when. The MPC200XL is there weapon of choice and these jazz collectors certainly have endeared themselves to us. Welcome..

On remix duty we present to you an artist we hold in high regard and one that is close to our hearts at Steppers & Sleepers, https://soundcloud.com/chris-wj. Formerly of Coventry (UK) and now Massachusetts, United States, https://soundcloud.com/chris-wj is somewhat of an enigma to his following.

He concerns himself with rhythm and delivery, thanks to exposure to a percussionists ideal at a young age. His discography is modest at best, but his armory of unreleased edits and productions is mighty. His roots are subliminally Erick Morillo and early Strictly Rhythm. https://soundcloud.com/chris-wj is very much apart of our DNA here at Steppers & Sleepers as he more than anyone else is largely responsible for effecting the early years of https://soundcloud.com/augustus_gloop as a mentor. A lot more to come from this talented producer and DJ.

For the second remix on the 'STS EP' we bring to you the Mainz based https://soundcloud.com/tilman. A soulful guy and a producers, producer. We have been waiting a while to have https://soundcloud.com/tilman affect us with his wizardry and he blesses us with a truly inspiring acid house take on the 'Beat MPC'. If you collect vinyl then you will know of his https://soundcloud.com/klamauk label founded in 2008 home to a string of impressionistic cuts. a producer very much in love with samples, synthesizers and drum machines and very much in our hearts.

Frits Wentink launches his new label Bobby Donny with ‘Live Fast, Dwayne Young’.  Bobby Donny has been set up to primarily feature Frits Wentink’s own tracks, but focusing on the wonkier, more lo-fi house edge of his sound.  The emphasis will be on tracks that are hardware jams on Rhodes, Juno 60 or mpc, then structured later. 

His first EP on Bobby Donny opens with ‘Dwayne Young’, which puts the fun into funky with its deep vibe, filtered vocals and creative samplings.  Slowing it down, ‘Rio’ is next, like a short but sweet interlude of off-kilter slow-mo experimentation.  Then it’s back to the grooving house beats of ‘Guacamole’ with its jazzy backbone, before the melodious ‘Q&A’ kicks in, featuring a gorgeously wobbly overtone.  ‘Aquarelle’ is a perfect ending, with distorted elements gradually coming together to find their harmonious compromise.

With ‘Live Fast, Dwayne Young’ Frits Wentink once again displays the hugely creative talents of this much sought after producer.  It’s released on vinyl and digitally 22nd June.
