“I Am Here Now, When Will You Be Here Again?” collects 28 contemporary voices, from or with connection to the music landscape of Copenhagen today. 

In 28 songs and more than two hours of music ”I Am Here Now, When Will You Be Here Again?” presents a multitude of expressions. An empty holiday retreat, a portrait of a season’s end. Echoes of emotion, laughter in the background, someone cried here too. Sandalwood scent or patchouli, rain pools gathering on the piled up daybeds, it is colder now. If the storm comes, i’ll let myself get carried away too. I am here now, when will you be here again? 

The compilation is presented digitally and as a limited set of cassettes out late October “I Am Here Now, When Will You Be Here Again?” is the newest addition to a lineage of Posh Isolation compilations. Sung in voices of today it echoes a past cry; 

“Give me a mask to put my face in. A mask to put over my other mask. What do I care if some curious person sees my flaws? Let this mask, with its black eyebrows, blush for me.”

PREMIERE: Lyra Valenza — Reverie (Posh Isolation, 2023)

NEVER SLEEP presents a lesson in the dangers of time travel and pisshead nationalism on SINKING SUBURB, the new EP from REAL LIES.

The small-town storytelling of Kevin Lee Kharas and Patrick King channels Stephen King via Paul Weller on their latest release, the EP a suburban revenge fantasy taking in family feuds, treacherous friends, funfair beatings, the long-defunct high-street poster shop Athena and the tendency for teenage Edens to curdle into dystopias behind your back.

All three tracks instantly conjure their own eerie, electronic atmospheres that shine and surge like the sun across motorway adjacent football pitches. We left some words below to the conquistadors themselves…

SINKING SUBURB is about a return to a childhood hometown that has been trapped in a bubble and eerily preserved behind a “time-resistant wall” as the world has changed around it. And the surreal events that take place upon that return. An Eden turned sinister. The air is bottle green.

In SHIRLEY ROAD I return to by hometown on the run from some unspecified crime and find my dad still asleep on the family sofa, as Cremonese-Atalanta plays on Channel 4’s ‘Football Italia’ show from the 1990s. The ominous sounds of a dial-up modem punctuate the static silence of one of the “lizard-brain English Sundays” that used to be a reliably sleepy and tedious end to every working week in the 90s. Until the internet tore life off its temporal hinges and made boredom a thing of the past. I hope to find sanctuary there but instead find a ‘sinking suburb’ that hunts me like prey because I’m an intruder from a different time, the walls beneath the classic posters from Athena high street shop “growing teeth” and chasing me across the strange landscape.

In SHADOWLANDS there’s a reminiscence of how we used to try to escape the listless boredom of our teenage hometown: in my mate Dan’s blood red 1.4 SR Nova. (It’s pure coincidence that it’s the same car Mike Skinner talks about in HAS IT COME TO THIS?) Dan was renowned for being the fastest, most dangerous driver in our hometown and we would get stoned and let him bomb us up and down country lanes. It was incredibly stupid but in the moment it was a kind of escape, at least until the engine stopped.

I REMEMBER HIGH STREETS is a suburban revenge fantasy in which the real reason for my return is revealed: I have come back to confront the traitor Simon Mahon, who I’m still convinced was getting off with my first girlfriend/first love when I was 15 years old. This is one of the “secrets” talk about in the new last verse – I have my own but I’ve been away from the town so long now that they no longer seem particularly significant or threatening. The town no longer has a hold over me – so while the town is no longer home to me, that has its advantages.

The whole EP is inspired by Jeff VanderMeer's Southern Reach trilogy, The Jam and memory loss.
