I like techno

Foremost international techno outlet Drumcode is delighted to announce the release of its next full-length album, ‘Satellite’, by enduring Italian techno talent Sam Paganini.

Though he has been active since the mid nineties, recent years have been hugely successful for Sam, with searing techno EPs coming on revered labels such as Riche Hawtin’s Plus8, Sven Vath’s Cocoon and of course, Adam Beyer’s Drumcode. In his time he has been responsible for underground hits like ‘Zoe’, ‘Polyester’ and ‘Fire In My Arms’, all of which demonstrate his dynamic understanding of sexy, dark and hypnotic techno grooves and at the same time have earned him plenty of great Beatport chart positions as well as respect from the best in the game.

Incredibly, ‘Satellite’ is Sam’s first full-length album. Informed by his DJ gigs at legendary places like Berghain in Berlin and Cielo in New York, the album starts with a dystopian bit of sonic scene setting, as if a space ship is charging up ready to take off.

From there it’s a case of getting straight down to business. ‘Another Chance’ is a spacey bit of cantering techno and ‘White’ is rooted in devastating kick drums and is riddled with serrated synth lines that build lots of great techno pressure. ‘Down’ is an undulating bit of funky techno complete with choice vocal flourishes and tracks like ‘Lotus’ are prime offerings from the deeper end of the scale.

No two tracks sound the same on Satellite: Sam is always teasing out a new bit of texture, nailing a slightly different vibe or exploring different amounts of light and dark throughout the course of this most excellent album. This is evidenced by diverse cuts like ‘Dusty’, ‘Toxic’ and ‘Rave’.

Despite ‘Satellite’ being Sam’s debut album, it showcases his seductive style in all its glory across 12 fantastic tracks that will leave you begging for more.

It was in 2014 when a mutual friend introduced me to Victor Ruiz while he was staying here in Berlin. I invited Victor to my studio where we had a fantastic session, playing our music to each other, listening to stuff we like and simply talkin and connecting. Since then, we became close friends as well as starting to work together. Victor has released two outstanding EPs on Electric Ballroom by now. This summer we met again and recorded three tracks. Production duo Mark Richards & James Eliot aka Solardo are the next to make their mark on Hot Creations with ‘Tribesmen’, delivering two heavy-duty cuts destined to stir serious heat in the club.

Already doing the rounds worldwide at the hands of some of the biggest names in the business, ‘Tribesmen’ and ‘Psycho Girlfriend’ are built straight for the dancefloor around dense and heavy basslines, punchy percussion and prominent vocal slices.

Hailing from Manchester, Solardo are continuing the city’s rich heritage in house music whilst carving out their own sound in the house and techno scene with releases on Madtech, MTA Records and more recently Of Unsound Mind. André Winter has been working under various collaborative pseudonyms and diverse aliases while shaping the sound of today's club scene. Since starting to release under his own name in 2005, Winter has found regular homes on Ideal Audio and now Senso Sounds. Delivering a double header on this release, Winter proves he remains ahead of the pack. 'Cascadeur' is a techno bomb - deep and driving with plenty of attitude. The thick bass tones rumble through the track, while a trippy vocal adds another dimension for the dancers. 'Fléaux' is cut from the same cloth - a companion piece to 'Cascadeur' that uses the same sound palette to create another twist on Winter’s blueprint. Both tracks are set to cause serious disturbance in basements and main rooms throughout the year.

London-based producer Cera Alba pairs up with vocalist Zahra for a pair of tough tracks on Jamie Jones’ Hottrax this June featuring a remix from Stockholm’s Tiger Stripes.

Since his humble beginnings several years ago the Newcastle-born artist has cemented a reputation for consistency, with releases appearing on the likes of Hot Creations, Moon Harbour, VIVa MUSiC,
Avotre, Madtech and Gruuv. As a DJ he’s been making regular appearances across Europe, including venues such as Watergate Berlin, Sankeys Ibiza, Brixton Academy London, not to mention festivals such as Hideout.

‘Taking Over Me’ is a dark and moody roller from the get-go. Robust drums and mesmerizing atmospherics form its basis whilst Zahra’s soulful vocals and a cavernous low-end rumbles throughout to its rhythm as a piercing vocal and metallic elements ebb in and out of the mix. Tiger Stripes then provides a crunchy remix of ‘Taking Over Me’, distorting Zahra’s vocals whilst incorporating tantalizing synths into his own stomping rendition.
