Story:
"The first collaborative track of the Music Production Cluster's first batch, this track treats the listener to our collective's first attempt at testing the waters of music production. We started production two weeks before the exhibit, opting for a portable studio setup and collaborating on-campus. Our process began by gathering in one room and listening to each member's favorite tracks for inspiration before starting production.

Actively listening to each other's favorite tracks made it easy for all members to have a creative voice in the production, with Mark leading as the producer and in charge of guitar instrumentation, Elmar serving as the sound engineer and in charge of synths and leads, werenearly providing drums and bass instrumentation, Eudaimon helping with arrangement and vocal work, and YRAH MSTR providing artistic direction and vocal work.

The track celebrates the uniqueness of every individual, expressed through the art form of memes. The evolution of memes mirrors the evolution of contemporary human beings, and the history of memes is the history of contemporary society. In other words, the story of memes is the story of us - you and me! (me!)"

Story:
"This track is a remake of one of the most legendary meme songs, "All Star" by Smash Mouth. At first, I wanted to combine the genres Boom-bap and Color Bass to complement the rap part. However, I later opted approaching this in the genre Future Bass since the Color Bass synths I made seemed lacking. The boom-bap section I created isn't the usual kind that samples old jazz or funk records because I couldn't make it fit with the vocals. Instead, I created my instrumentation by adding bass, syncopated electric piano, and pizzicato strings.

The most challenging part of making this track was creating smooth transitions. As a first-timer arranging a full 3-minute song with different genres and moods for each section, I found it hard to bridge each part. Though the process had its frustrating moments, making it work was incredibly satisfying. With more practice, I hope to find producing music a smoother and more enjoyable process."

Story:
"I stayed up all night to create my individual track for BOTTOM TEXT and came up with Red Hot Takoyaki, inspired by a Filipino pop culture meme "Dalawang Pisong Takoyaki" by sikatnablager and the Red Hot Chili Peppers. It was also a belated birthday tribute to my friend Ephraim, who often references the meme.

I started with a typical funk riff using the Hendrix chord and added riffs inspired by John Frusciante's style. I opted to write the song’s lyrics in English after realizing that keeping the original Filipino lyrics wouldn’t work if I wanted to  ake the song a direct parody of the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Their style consists of funky instrumentals, silly verses, and powerful choruses like Anthony Kiedis.

Beyond the meme, this song is about persevering through life's challenges, recognizing self-worth, and having a positive outlook on failure and waiting for the moment to succeed. "Red Hot Takoyaki" celebrates my love for music and sense of humor. I hope you enjoy listening to it!"

"Crab Rave LoFi (MSTR Remix)" is YRAH MSTR’s chill and laid-back take on the energetic and upbeat original, with smooth lofi beats and atmospheric sounds that give the track a relaxed and mellow vibe.

Story:
"This was my first time doing a remix, and also my first time sharing it with everyone. I chose this song, “Crab Rave” by Noisestorm, because it's memorable to me. When my friend first played it for me, I quickly searched for it on YouTube and saw a lot of funny-looking crabs dancing on an island. From that day on, I couldn't get the song out of my head and played it multiple times. But don't worry, that was a year ago, and I'm not addicted to it anymore. Still, I wanted to use it because it fits well in different genres.

When our music head decided that we would use songs based on meme music, I took the opportunity to use Crab Rave and searched for its lo-fi version, which I then remixed. I felt nervous and happy at the same time while doing the remix, as it was my first time using music software. Thanks to today's technology, I learned how to use it properly, but I still struggled a lot to make the beat because I had to adjust and align it with the song's tempo. In the end, I was grateful for the experience because I knew I could improve my skills, especially the ones I couldn't use before due to lack of proper music creation tools."

Story:
"I chose the meme “Among Us” since it's the easiest one to create a meme song about. I gathered some info about the Among Us “Report” sound effect and finally settled on it.

Most are familiar with the Among Us report sound effect meme as it's often used in today's era of memes. The original sound effect is just a 4-note melody in C minor blues scale, but in memes, it's always finished in a different fashion— thus I adapted the meme’s arrangement. I just played through that typical melody. But one thing that came to mind when composing this music is a song by Mistfulplays, a jazz piano improvisation of this Among Us melody. I took inspiration from it and made it slightly different. Instead of jazz, I used my own style of playing piano, which is very simplistic and minimalistic.

I used Mistfulplays' melody of his jazz composition and made mine into a waltz in 3/4-time signature. It's based on the key of C minor and has a bit of a twist to the melody. The outcome is fantastic in my opinion and good as a rushed composition with a bit of a minor-ish sound due to the fact that it's mostly played in C minor, except for the bridge part since it mostly has major chords.

As for the title, Mark, our cluster head, proposed that I name it “A Ballad Among Us”, which is cool and funny sounding. It's a very simple concept and a good starter project given to us by our cluster head and event head, Karl Vega."

"I Did It for You" is werenearly’s nostalgic retrowave track that incorporates the iconic melody from the viral sad Borzoi dog meme, creating a dreamy and emotional atmosphere.

Story:
""I Did It for You" is a composition that is inspired by an emotional original tune that transitions into retrowave. The iconic melody has recently been used in a meme featuring a long-nosed dog, and I have mixed this melody into my own retro-sounding music. I chose this particular meme because it has gained popularity all over my social media, and its simple melody has become a very catchy tune.

For the cyber and retro wave genre, I drew inspiration from artists like The Weeknd and Brisom to create the synthesizers and simple basslines. I purposely avoided adding more complicated sounds and kept the track as simple as possible, because in my understanding of memes, having a tune that is easy for audiences to catch on to is what makes a meme a "meme."

The story behind this track involves the transitions between each bar to create a gradual build-up of the instruments. The original meme “Didn’t I do it for you?” serves as the inspiration for the track, which answers the question by stating "I did it for you."

Artist's side note: It is quite ironic that it took me too long to complete this track, just so you, the audience, could experience it."
