While it's likely to go down in history as the worst contest ever conceived, today is the FINAL day to be a participant in the Thanks-GiveItToMe music box giveaway! For those who have three minutes to spare in their post turkey comas, here's what needs to happen:

2. Subscribe (if you haven't already) and then leave feedback and a sentence or three about why you listen to our little show.

3. EMAIL us the iTunes username that your feedback will be affiliated with, along with your shipping address.

That's all there is to it, but it needs to be done before Saturday, November 29th because it takes at least a day or two for iTunes feedback to go public.

New Music Mystery - Nov 28 - Difficulty 8

Welcome to December's first of nine episodes! We'll be on holiday over the holidays so I'll be taking a bit of recording hiatus during the last two weeks of December, but returning with new episodes on Monday, January 5, 2015.  In  the meantime, lots of great music for the month to share, not the LEAST of which is today's artist.  A newer artist, so a difficulty of six, but some great music here with this release AND another new album to come next month as well!

New Music Mystery Podcast - Dec 5 - Difficulty 5

Everyone's mother seems to be releasing "Best Albums of 2014" lists these days and while we won't bother with that given our late start in the year, many of these lists have been good for us to see what some publications think of as great new music.  Today's mystery artist was discovered on a few "Best of 2014" lists I had reviewed, and luckily it fell within our six month window.  And most importantly, it's really good!

New Music Mystery - Dec 8 - Difficulty 8

I don't say it nearly often enough during the show, but seriously, THANK YOU for spending your time with us each week.  I realize that we are not a usual podcast in terms of length or frequency.  Most podcasts seem to come out once a week and last for at least 30 minutes or an hour. Personally, I can't listen to a person or even a few people ramble on for an hour or more. I've never been a fan of morning zoo programs and I respect YOUR time too much to spend a lot of time with pointless banter that's irrelevant to the topic at hand, MUSIC.  My goal, early on, was to make sure a listener spends LESS time listening my podcast by hearing samples of the best tracks on album (in my opinion - obviously) than it would take them to go through it on their own or to listen to an entire album.  I'm not interested in being a personality or having other shows that allow me more time to talk.  New Music Mystery is purely about great music and I genuinely appreciate all of you who've listened for any length of time to a few of my shows since we launched on September 22nd.

This seems like an appropriate time & place to also announce a holiday hiatus. Next week Friday, December 19th will be our FINAL podcast episode for 2014.  We are taking some time off, visiting the Dominican Republic around the holidays and then I'm going to the NHL Winter Classic in Washington DC on January 1, 2015 ( #LetsGoBlackhawks ).   I'll get back behind the microphone again that following weekend so you can expect your first new episode of 2015 on Monday, January 5th.  Along with the new year I'm looking at changing up the theme music and maybe a few other things with the format as well.  If you have any ideas about what you like about the show that you do NOT want changed or ideas about what could make the show better, please email me with your thoughts.

I cannot argue that last week was a TOUGH week, so I though we should take things a little easier this week, starting off with a Difficulty of 3 of 10.  I would bet that ALL listeners have heard this band before, some of you may have already heard a few singles off this new album, but the bottom line is that this is a really good new release that many people will appreciate. Trying to keep things at an easier level, compared to last week, while keeping the music quality high.  I don't think anyone will be disappointed with today's mystery artist - a difficulty rating of 6/10. New Music Mystery - Dec 17 - Difficulty 6

So it's been quite a run.  We launched New Music Mystery on Sept 22nd and almost exactly three months later we're saying farewell to 2014.  I haven't counted how many episodes I've recorded but my guess is it's near 40 with a LOT of really good music covered. At least to my ears...

As we prepare for a new year, we also prepare for new changes to the show as well. I'm thinking of changing up the format a bit, maybe a different intro song and some other surprises to come.  While this would be the point where I would normally ask for input and feedback from listeners about what you liked or disliked about NMM, I've come to realize that most people just prefer to listen and not spend a lot of time sending an email with feedback.

It's been a good run and I'm proud of what we accomplished in three months and the music that we've hopefully brought to light for a few.  When we return, most likely on Monday, January 5th,  we hope you'll still be interested in listening to more great new music.
