Haven’t been on the cloud much lately. Been travelling across the southern Australian coastline, to the beautiful and remote Kangaroo Island. Its beauty seemed strangely juxtaposed to the horrors going on elsewhere.

Haunting Moods of Change

Bealtaine is one of the four major Irish Celtic annual festivals along with Samhain, Imbolc and Lughnasa. It signifies the return of the light and widely observed throughout Ireland, Scotland and the Isle of Man, 
Although May was heralded with joy, an element of the magical lay behind the merriments, with protection against unseen forces given an urgency at this time.
There were curious beliefs around housework in May. It was considered unlucky to dust the house and believed unlucky to get married in May. It was considered unlucky to dig, bathe, whitewash or sail on May Day. Not hearing the cuckoo in the month of May meant certain death for the non-hearer!
 In Ireland, a tree or bush was decorated with ribbons or shells near an individual house. It was usually white thorn, the most potent of faery trees which flowers in May, which paradoxically is considered very unlucky if brought indoors. A green bough hung over the door, woven from sycamore, was also believed to bring good luck.

This song is a personal one about the companionship I feel with my friends when I play music with them. Using the phoenix theme of death and rebirth in the fire. The inspirations for this song include the progressive songwriting of Yes, and the lyrical playing of Mei Semones. I guess you could say I'm blending an old style with a new one. I have been enjoying writing shorter songs recently. Something about the attention span of everyone these days demands quick playback. Hope you enjoy!

The idea for this song came to me randomly while driving down some backroad a few years back, and I recorded the initial idea spur of the moment. For whatever reason, the rather morbid theme came out in the process and I just went with it. Nat is a daring soul and surprisingly encouraged that we record it and with her considerable help we fashioned this recording. Notable is that Nat has taken on the ability to add some beautiful pedal steel guitar throughout the song using her well established keyboard skills and this first run at it was very satisfying. All songs are composed for and first played with real instruments. However sometimes, we use several vst instruments to improve the sound.  We experiment with electronic/EDM sounds and effects, alienate natural instrument, sometimes make it sound more electronic.
We are the rest of a musician group, quite a few years ago (at school), actually instrumentalists, 2 female, one of them piano, oboe, the other piano, clarinet, 1 male, all kinds of guitar, also bass and ukulele. The other two are unfortunately missing now (1 female who was our main singer (bad luck, so we have only us - background singers) and violin and 1 male, also guitars). Occasionally there is a real electric guitar or bass, but probably not recognizable as such. So now we sound quite different than before or, at least here...before starting here, our style contained different elements, folk, classical, pop-Rock, sometimes also Hard/Punk-Rock or Metal. When we play live, we still have that sound. We hope some people like our music here!
