Sonja is a DJ, electronic synth artist, music writer and editor, workshop organizer and facilitator, and creator of independent record label Biblioteka Records. She is the editor of Dive Music Magazine’s Toronto issue, a member of the Toronto Music Industry Advisory Committee and The JUNO Awards Electronic Album of the Year Committee, and a Polaris Prize juror. As a DJ, she plays heavily with the harder side of techno and enjoys leftfield beats, but also holds a longstanding appreciation for softer and deeper house. She has played at numerous events and venues across Ontario, including Guelph Winter Pride, One Loft, and more, and has a monthly residency on Miami-based station Empty Plate Radio, and her mixes have aired on online radio stations in Toronto, Montreal, Brooklyn, and New Delhi. As a musician, she relies on analogue hardware and equipment for improvised, alien, and fleeting modular synthesizer sets that play with deconstructed club techno.
