Lust (Lost In Rhythm) Reissue

Newtones were surprised and encouraged by the strong reception of their first work posted on YouTube in 2012. This work was stemming from jam sessions in the practice studios where bass, drums and guitar found common musical ground, and where  music genres from late 70s,
80s and 90s, personal experience and taste were brought together, resulting in an original and live pop/rock sound.

The band started in January 2011 when the original three members (Marco Grimaldi – Bass / Domenico Marinelli - Guitar / Miguel Robaina - Drums) met at a local pub in Dublin (Anseo) for a band live gig. As it often goes, with common interest in 80's and 90's live sounds, the
trio started jamming and recording their own material. It quickly became clear that the trio had something interesting and fresh to say, with some reminiscences of what the classic rock sound is.

Newtones have a natural reference in 70's and 80's rock and hard-rock with strong influence from pop and bass driven music. Domenico, a big fan of classic rock bands such Joy Division, Neworder, U2 and The Who,
brought same kind of mystical feeling to the music with his long intros and classic rock solo’s. Marco, has his musical roots in British classic hard rock (Black Sabbath), but has developed in the years an articulated music taste, bringing him to appreciate a variety of genres, from classic and alternative rock (RHCP, RATM) to funk &
fusion (Marcus Miller, Weather Report, Chick Corea's Elektric Band) and lately to commercially successful productions (Nile Rodgers, Daft Punk, Dave Matthews Band). The funky & disco appeal of our songs comes
without any doubt from perfectly driven notes of Marco’s bass. Miguel, inspired by the pure and solid rock feeling of classic bands such ACDC, Def Leppard, Rolling Stones, Van Halen, ZZ Top, moves away from complicated rhythmic patterns and keeps our music synced to what we
are, a rock band.

The band production witnessed some slowdowns between 2013 and 2014. Our families got bigger, our jobs more complicated and Domenico decided to leave the band in order to fulfil personal career ambitions outside the music.

Nevertheless, the band kept on working hard writing new material and with Marco filling the guitar positions Newtones added a more defined funky twist to the sound. At a later stage, Ailbhe Griffith joined as lead singer and the already solid sound started to take new consistency and appeal. The combination of Ailbhe's clear vocal tone
and characteristic timbre with the band's sound, allows the music production to explore more deeply ties with pop resonances, while maintaining a dark flavour in the lyrics. Ailbhe is musically inspired by a wide range of bands and singers. Her taste spans from the sounds of classic bands such as Led Zeppelin, the Doors, Rolling Stones, up to and including the more mainstream pop music of Alanis Morissette.

With renovated energy, motivation and enthusiasm, the band started recording and mixing new and old material to produce a first demo album that saw the light on March 2015 and was titled after the band’s name “NewTones”.
