Massive opportunity to play this event, and I feel truly honoured to have been welcomed onto the lineup. Newy Bass Crew's takeover of the first deck went down in an astonishing fashion.

This set was a surprise to me, as in true Whompus style I had an all new technical error with my USB resulting in a change of plans on the spot. But all things happen for a reason, and this once again turned out to be a blessing in disguise as the replacement ideas landed so hard that I couldn't care about not having my plans.

SPINNING MAGIC 1 - OHCULT MINIMIX

Kaizen OG is one of the Newy Bass Crew legends and a junglist based in Darkinjoong (NSW Central Coast). With an insatiable appetite for music, he effortlessly traverses all tempos of broken beats, as long as they're accompanied by fat bass lines, infectious riddims, and soulful melodies.

Originally hailing from the UK, Kaizen OG arrived in Australia in 2012, swiftly becoming a part of Eora's drum and bass scene. In 2016, he cut his teeth as a resident DJ at the legendary kickon spot "117" – a place that holds a special allure for those in the know.

His sonic journey has lead him to play some awesome parties including Parkapoolooza, Chinese Laundry, The Elements of Tech and Bass, Afterlife, various Newy Bass Crew events, and Zoo Project, with his debut set being support for Delta Heavy and Matrix & Futurebound.

Although he took a brief hiatus from the club scene to embrace the joys of fatherhood, Kaizen OG channeled his passion into tinkering with sound systems, pushing the limits of speakers (I mean, how do you know where the limit is, if you haven’t kicked it’s head in a couple of times). His ingenuity led him to create a portable rig, enabling him to take his beats to secret spots tucked away in hidden corners.

Our FIRST female Bass Monster Feature,
An alchemist of deep, rolling basslines, euphoric sweetness, and bone-rattling jungle beats. Dread Maiden's aural journeys draw inspiration from the ebb and flow of progressive metal, psychedelic rock, dub, and drum and bass, with a goal to manifest eclectic mixes of light and dark, high and low, she takes listeners on captivating voyages.

Dread Maiden has long been a passionate supporter of the Australian drum and bass community. She co-hosted the Cabin Fever Sessions on Orbital Radio from 2021 until 2023 and is the driving force behind Newy Bass Crew.

She has also featured at NSW's Zenith Gathering Festival, Dragon Dreaming Festival, Basscamp and Subsonic Festival and WA's Rain Dance Festival alongside some of Australia and the worlds best underground acts in drum and bass, psytrance and more.

It's SUBJECTIVE VOL007 - DREAD MAIDEN

Drum and bass is so much more to me than just big drops, quick dopamine fixes, and loud noises. Sets can be a profound journey that touches the soul, deepens connections, and fosters personal growth.

This weekend, I had the immense honour of playing at the final RootBound Festival in FNQLD, and it was my heartfelt pleasure to guide people on a journey of intention through the sounds that resonate so deeply with me. Holding space with people through music is so incredibly powerful. It means the world to me to connect through music. 

Thank you to RootBound for inviting me to be part of such a special party. I'm deeply grateful to everyone who worked tirelessly to bring this festival to life and to all the amazing souls I encountered over the weekend. RootBound was a beautiful, authentic, and cathartic experience.

With everything that is going on in the world, personally and in general, it was a weekend of pure magic and escapism amongst chaos.

DEEP DOWN LOW - OHCULT REMIX 2024

Once again, I had the absolute pleasure and honour of playing on the Sexy Hexy - the HEX sound system, for the first instalment of, Beat Street. It was a cheeky street/carpark take over in the Sunshine Coast town of Nambour, right next door to the council and library building.. (Haha!) The whole day and night was only top shelf quality and it was a real treat to have been asked to close the night. Hope ya enjoy!
