The talented trio of Sonic Union, Eleven Sins & Forniva, who pilot the good ship Lowbit, deliver the labels next release with this long-awaited full-length album Ascension.

The first track Laguna set a mysterious tone, cleansing the musical palate for the rich feast it is about to experience, with tropical moods and arpeggiated patterns complimenting the shuffling drums.

Accelerate bursts out of the blocks with a full-blooded kick and ethereal synths combining to develop the deep sense of mystery and intrigue even further. The tension is rising....

Duplicate rises up to cut through the mystery and sees the producers move into more familiar territory. Driving progressive bass and swaggering drums open the way for glorious pads and breakbeats to take centre stage in the breakdown, a truly memorable moment.

The pace then slows with Scalamaria, which will hypnotise all that listen. Resonating drums and techno stabs are used as aural weapons, taking control and delivering an absorbing melodic journey.

Freedom takes us on a nostalgic trip down the progressive highway with melancholy stabs and bass driven key changes creating some magical moments.

Atomic explodes onto the sonic spectrum next and certainly lives up to its name. A throbbing bassline, moody riffs and a relentless, slamming kick drum detonate in harmony, as robotic vocals weave in and out expertly.

The Robot twists and turns with multiple eighties synths working together to create a dystopian, but uplifting space opera.

Havoc fizzes and pops through the gears. The mighty clap erupts and driving drums lead us towards to an unforgettable riff, awash with drama. As the elements fuse together a spellbinding scene unfolds, blurring the boundaries between techno and indie dance in glorious fashion.

The Drive heads back into more familiar deep, melodic and progressive territory with the rolling bassline and multiple synth riffs weaving together in harmony, locking the listener into the groove.

The album closes with Dreaming. Ethereal synths, techno pads and expertly programmed toms deliver a glittering, euphoric final moment.

This album showcases the experience and endless talent that this trio of producers have in their locker. It also demonstrates their versatility as they move from progressive and melodic sounds through to indie dance, techno and breaks. Ascension is a fitting name for a cutting-edge piece of work that will lift the listener to another level.

Amsterdam based duo Engelbert make their Manual Music debut with this double A-sider featuring the tracks 'Arche' and 'Crater'.

They started out in 2021 by self releasing a bunch of singles, quickly securing a record deal at ICONYC the year after. You might also remember the remix they did for Aiden on Manual's affiliated label Cinematique last year- a label on which they will return in 2023 as well.

But first it's time for 'Arche' and 'Crater', two big sounding and very dancefloor-effective melodic techno tracks, accompanied by a remix by the one and only Whirl (ATLANT, Steyoyoke, ICONYC).

Valencia-born Upercent's debut on Sum Over Histories is the EP 'Taula Baser', this four-track sonic journey is a notable addition to his already impressive discography, which includes releases on Innervisions, Kompakt, TAU, and Diynamic.

The EP starts with the heavy club anthem 'Revolta' ('rebellion' in Valencian), born from a memorable night in Munich, a groovy banger fueled by intricate rhythms. A hypnotic vocal motif sets the stage for the listener in Upercent's signature sonic realm.

Next up is ‘Contorsiona’, a mesmerizing journey driven by a pulsating rhythm, accompanied by hefty drums, urgent chimes, and warped vocals. Upercent builds tension towards a massive breakdown, leading to an energetic release and a captivating conclusion.

'Mussol' (owl in Valencian) is the penultimate track, evoking the tranquility of being a night owl. Upercent's unique touch is evident in its engaging simplicity, with mesmerizing percussion and a moody, solemn atmosphere that keeps you enthralled.

'Reminiscencia' concludes the EP with its relentless dynamism, this track unfolds deliberately, constructing an intricate sonic landscape that evokes a power and majesty. The introduction of a repetitive vocal midway intensifies the disquieting ambiance. A pervasive air envelops the audience in darkness as the EP reaches its conclusion.

A veteran of some 200 production credits stretching back to 2008, Vinayak A made his Particles debut in late 2009 remixing Evren Ulusoy. Going on to rework the likes of Kosmos Epsilon and Mobilize, 2010 saw the release of his "Losing Myself feat Dhrithi" EP off the back of a successful appearance on "Fall Particles 2010". A pair of original tracks make up 2024's "The Call", with the title track full of organic house charm as delicate percussive patterns swirl seductively. Bathed in warm sunlit instrumentation, smooth guitars, brass and woodwind vie for listener attention in a multi-faceted track. Through subtle urgency, a chugging cadence comes to the fore in the latter stages alongside beautifully placed vocal textures and call and response melodies. "Side Kicked" revels in delicious organic and deep house characteristics as it drifts through its 7-minute timeframe. A smattering of smooth keys and sublime free-flowing motifs glide across the mid-range, while a funky bassline groove creates an exquisite atmosphere. Adding field recordings and new soundscapes at the breakdown, these blossom through the second half to create a superb denouement that revels in layers of dynamic sonic brilliance.

Patrick Bruyndonx has created a powerful production moniker with his Lost Desert name. A regular on All Day I Dream, TRYBESof, Bedrock and Lee Burridge's Tale & Tone, the Belgian artist makes a welcome Particles debut with a stunning interpretation of "The Call". Gently floating across a near 9-minute timeframe through the aptly named "Tranquil Days Remix", familiar motifs from Vinayak A's original are treated to a supremely imagined new groove. An original bassline progression and toms then add to the rolling vibe, pausing for a hypnotic breakdown of looped patterns and soaring strings. Revelling in the rhythmic feel of earlier phrases, the third movement pulsates gently as waves of strings lilt effortlessly in contemplative fashion.

Wolfframm's penchant for "cinematic soundscape, lush melodies and intricate layers" have seen the German-Australian artist hit the heights with work signed to the likes of Late Night Music, LW Recordings and Massive Harmony. A pair of remixes for Particles in late 2022 and early 2023 saw superb reworkings of OHMZ and Juan Deminicis as Wolfframm now returns with a progressive house gem that reimagines "The Call". Full of dancefloor urgency, a powerful beat and fizzing hats lay the foundation for familiar phrases and patterns from Vinayak A's original to find their place in a fusion of progressive and organic house. Rolling seductively through a newly developed percussive groove, fresh melodic sequences appear at the breakdown to create an ethereal Border Community inspired sequence, before dropping back into the dynamic and driving groove.

Returning to Particles after a decade's hiatus, Vinayak A has answered "The Call", perfectly supported by remixes from Lost Desert and Wolfframm.

The release concludes with a third label debutant in Stimmhalt providing the lone interpretation of ‘Vertical Blue’.

Active since 2011, the Stimmhalt project explores an intersection of organic house, electronica and various sub-genres of techno. Celebrated for his releases via Akbal Music, Kindisch, Rebellion and Seven Villas, the Georgian producer/DJ has been in constant motion, performing at the world’s premiere festivals and clubs, most notably Burning Man, Decibel, Echowaves and Showbox Seattle. 

Increasingly selective with his projects in recent years, Stimmhalt now presents his first offering of 2024, making his Refraction debut with a stellar rendition of ‘Vertical Blue’.

The Tbilisi resident shows a deft hand and a strong sense of personality, as organic sounds soon become smudged by sonic artefacts, drifting vocal fragments and grainy billows of reverb. A deep yet rejuvenating experience, one which not only rounds out the release on a strong note, but adds another summer backroom club tool to your arsenal.

As we lead into fall, we are bringing you a slice of our dear friend Mike Ravelli which we’ve been road testing and tuning for more than a year.   
Mike Ravelli is a master of moving crowds & driving them wild in clubs and undergrounds throughout Amsterdam & China. Grooving in the booth for almost 20 years, his enthusiasm speaks to his commitment that his music should build up a sweat. 

Mike Ravelli’s latest original mixes does so literally from the first beat; music and dancer, fall immediately into a symbiotic relationship from moment one.  Driving sounds through hardware and software, his music is familiar and fresh, comforting and confronting all at the same time and a vibe that seems to resonate on dance floors worldwide.  And each track seemingly lives in its own environment, inspired by a place where Mike has been before.

When listening to Nest you can imagine a conventional Amsterdam club, resident DJ grooving to the track and a dance floor of old friends. Britta Arnold brings a grittier powerful quality demanding the expenditure of a new energy from the dancefloor.

Sliggy reaches up from a Berlin underground where friends meet strangers who will never be strangers again.  The Pysh Remix takes the sound travelling and invites all to come with him; a lyrical journey with Sliggy’s original mix as the vehicle.

Prop fills an outdoor festival from the stage, across the crowd and to the sky with big arps and anthemic sounds that meander into space.  This calls out to the stars picking up dancers along the way as we have seen all over the globe when bringing the Prop.
