‘Songs of the Next War’ are personal interpretations of Jewish-Arab war songs recorded in Israel during the Six-Day War period (1967). These songs, sung in Jewish-Arabic dialects to Arabic folk tunes, were not included in any of the main collections of Israeli war songs and were forgotten over the years. After being re-discovered, the songs were sampled and processed into new musical under the title “Songs of the Next War”.

‘Songs of the Next War’ are personal interpretations of Jewish-Arab war songs recorded in Israel during the Six-Day War period (1967). These songs, sung in Jewish-Arabic dialects to Arabic folk tunes, were not included in any of the main collections of Israeli war songs and were forgotten over the years. After being re-discovered, the songs were sampled and processed into new musical under the title “Songs of the Next War”. In relation to these musical pieces, visual artist Dor Zlekha Levy had created original video compositions based on personal war archives. The overall project portrays nowadays’ public atmosphere in Israel, where dreams of common reconciliation are confronted to an endless loop of war that we seem to be trapped in.

The project was developed by Dor Zlekha Levy in a unique process together with the musicians involved: Ofer Tisser, Aviad Zinemanas, Binyamin Oren, Omer Schonberger, Yuval Shenhar, Omer Luz, Eran Feller.  All records were sampled from the private collection of Uri ‘Mixmonster’ Wertheim.
