I've been wanting to make a cover of this song for a while, and I finally did it. I think this might be one of the single most influential pieces of music I heard as a child. I tried to stay as faithful as possible with one major exception: I slowed it down from 230 to 210 BPM. My biggest issue with some of the old Konami chiptunes is their breakneck speed. How is a listener able to appreciate some of the finer details? Enjoy this short but amazing gem.

Another cover, this time from the little known shooter called Silpheed. I remember this vividly, even though it's nothing special...except the music of course. I took a lot of creative liberties here, from certain harmonic changes to remaking the entire drum track from scratch, because they just slapped down a loop and said "good enough." As always, I tried to stay as faithful as possible. If anyone has good techniques for making Konami-style orchestral hits, let me know.

Made this in Garage Band as the demo for my middle school composition students.

Here's the assignment:

1. Must have an intro
2. Must have 3 sections, 2 of which need to repeat.
3. Must end on a tonic I chord.
4. Must be at least one minute long but not more than 4 mins.
5. Must have a melody line over a chord progression

I made this in a weekend on garage band (first time using GB).

I think it's alright, for being hashed together in two days using a program I rarely use.

I like late 50's/early 60's rock 'n' roll, soul/funk classic hits from the South and Midwest, new wave, science fiction, and video game music (Sonic and Star Control 2 are my biggest VGM influences).
