Satan Tempts Jesus

4 Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. 2 And when He had fasted forty days and forty nights, afterward He was hungry. 3 Now when the tempter came to Him, he said, “If You are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread.”
4 But He answered and said, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’ ”
5 Then the devil took Him up into the holy city, set Him on the pinnacle of the temple, 6 and said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down. For it is written:
‘He shall give His angels charge over you,’
and,
‘In their hands they shall bear you up,
Lest you dash your foot against a stone.’ ”
7 Jesus said to him, “It is written again, ‘You shall not [a]tempt the LORD your God.’ ”
8 Again, the devil took Him up on an exceedingly high mountain, and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. 9 And he said to Him, “All these things I will give You if You will fall down and worship me.”
10 Then Jesus said to him, [b]“Away with you, Satan! For it is written, ‘You shall worship the LORD your God, and Him only you shall serve.’ ”
11 Then the devil left Him, and behold, angels came and ministered to Him.

Jesus Begins His Galilean Ministry
12 Now when Jesus heard that John had been put in prison, He departed to Galilee. 13 And leaving Nazareth, He came and dwelt in Capernaum, which is by the sea, in the regions of Zebulun and Naphtali, 14 that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Isaiah the prophet, saying:
15 “The land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali,
By the way of the sea, beyond the Jordan,
Galilee of the Gentiles:
16 The people who sat in darkness have seen a great light,
And upon those who sat in the region and shadow of death
Light has dawned.”
17 From that time Jesus began to preach and to say, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven [c]is at hand.”
Four Fishermen Called as Disciples
18 And Jesus, walking by the Sea of Galilee, saw two brothers, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen. 19 Then He said to them, “Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men.” 20 They immediately left their nets and followed Him.
21 Going on from there, He saw two other brothers, James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, in the boat with Zebedee their father, mending their nets. He called them, 22 and immediately they left the boat and their father, and followed Him.

Jesus Heals a Great Multitude
23 And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all kinds of sickness and all kinds of disease among the people. 24 Then [d]His fame went throughout all Syria; and they brought to Him all sick people who were afflicted with various diseases and torments, and those who were demon-possessed, epileptics, and paralytics; and He healed them. 25 Great multitudes followed Him—from Galilee, and from [e]Decapolis, Jerusalem, Judea, and beyond the Jordan.

Saved in Fiery Trial
19 Then Nebuchadnezzar was full of fury, and the expression on his face changed toward Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego. He spoke and commanded that they heat the furnace seven times more than it was usually heated. 20 And he commanded certain mighty men of valor who were in his army to bind Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego, and cast them into the burning fiery furnace. 21 Then these men were bound in their coats, their trousers, their turbans, and their other garments, and were cast into the midst of the burning fiery furnace. 22 Therefore, because the king’s command was [c]urgent, and the furnace exceedingly hot, the flame of the fire killed those men who took up Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego. 23 And these three men, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego, fell down bound into the midst of the burning fiery furnace.

24 Then King Nebuchadnezzar was astonished; and he rose in haste and spoke, saying to his [d]counselors, “Did we not cast three men bound into the midst of the fire?”

They answered and said to the king, “True, O king.”

25 “Look!” he answered, “I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire; and they are not hurt, and the form of the fourth is like the[e] Son of God.”

Nebuchadnezzar Praises God
26 Then Nebuchadnezzar went near the [f]mouth of the burning fiery furnace and spoke, saying, “Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego, servants of the Most High God, come out, and come here.” Then Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego came from the midst of the fire. 27 And the satraps, administrators, governors, and the king’s counselors gathered together, and they saw these men on whose bodies the fire had no power; the hair of their head was not singed nor were their garments affected, and the smell of fire was not on them.

28 Nebuchadnezzar spoke, saying, “Blessed be the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego, who sent His Angel[g] and delivered His servants who trusted in Him, and they have frustrated the king’s word, and yielded their bodies, that they should not serve nor worship any god except their own God! 29 Therefore I make a decree that any people, nation, or language which speaks anything amiss against the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego shall be cut in pieces, and their houses shall be made an ash heap; because there is no other God who can deliver like this.”

30 Then the king [h]promoted Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego in the province of Babylon.

7 Remember, and forget not, how thou provokedst the Lord thy God to wrath in the wilderness: from the day that thou didst depart out of the land of Egypt, until ye came unto this place, ye have been rebellious against the Lord. 8 Also in Horeb ye provoked the Lord to wrath, so that the Lord was angry with you to have destroyed you. 9 When I was gone up into the mount to receive the tables of stone, even the tables of the covenant which the Lord made with you, then I abode in the mount forty days and forty nights, I neither did eat bread nor drink water: 10 and the Lord delivered unto me two tables of stone written with the finger of God; and on them was written according to all the words, which the Lord spake with you in the mount out of the midst of the fire in the day of the assembly. 11 And it came to pass at the end of forty days and forty nights, that the Lord gave me the two tables of stone, even the tables of the covenant. 12 And the Lord said unto me, Arise, get thee down quickly from hence; for thy people which thou hast brought forth out of Egypt have corrupted themselves; they are quickly turned aside out of the way which I commanded them; they have made them a molten image. 13 Furthermore the Lord spake unto me, saying, I have seen this people, and, behold, it is a stiffnecked people: 14 let me alone, that I may destroy them, and blot out their name from under heaven: and I will make of thee a nation mightier and greater than they. 15 So I turned and came down from the mount, and the mount burned with fire: and the two tables of the covenant were in my two hands. 16 And I looked, and, behold, ye had sinned against the Lord your God, and had made you a molten calf: ye had turned aside quickly out of the way which the Lord had commanded you. 17 And I took the two tables, and cast them out of my two hands, and brake them before your eyes. 18 And I fell down before the Lord, as at the first, forty days and forty nights: I did neither eat bread, nor drink water, because of all your sins which ye sinned, in doing wickedly in the sight of the Lord, to provoke him to anger. 19 For I was afraid of the anger and hot displeasure, wherewith the Lord was wroth against you to destroy you. On March 12, 2023 was the official opening of the space to our Church or rather God's Church that He has called us to serve His people in here in Portimão, Algarve Portugal; New Heart New Spirit Alpha Omega Holy Assembly (NHNSAOHA), which is the first Scandinavian & International Church in Algarve, Portugal.

We walk in excitement and awe and cannot wait for what God will do with us as we follow him in the next season. We feel honoured and excited to be used by him and to start serving the people in Algarve, regardless of background, age or nationality.

Holy Saturday Service April 8, 2023 - Welcome to our first Church service at our new Portimao venue.

This Sunday we will continue our series; The Word of God and how it is is applied. It is applied to the Bible and it is applied to Jesus Christ.
Each of them is called the Word of God. This highlights the fact that there is a complete identity between Jesus and the Bible. The Bible is the written word of God, Jesus is the personal word of God. If we really want to be rightly related to Jesus, we must be rightly related to the Bible. We cannot be rightly related to Jesus but have a wrong relationship to the Bible. We can not truly love Jesus, if we do not know and love His word as much as we love Him, because the Bible is clear that if w love Jesus, we will obey Jesus and this requires that we know His word.

It is the author who gives authority to what he produces. So we need to know who is Bible's author, who is the author of Scripture? The Bible clearly answers this question in 2 Timothy 3:16 It says:

"All Scripture is given by inspiration of God and is profitable for teaching, for reproof, for the that the man of God may be perfect, complete, and perfecting, and that he may be an equipped for every good work."

We will also look at the fact that The Lion and the Lamb are two images and names for God used in Scripture that describe aspects of Jesus Christ. The attributes of Jesus are as powerful and majestic as a lion and innocent as a sacrificial lamb. 

Welcome to a service where we will look at these themes that are obviously of great importance, the authority and power of the Word of God the attributes of Jesus and the Spirit of God.

The Word of God and how it is is applied to the Bible and to Jesus Christ.

This Saturday we will look at Jesus as The Lion of the tribe of Judah.
The earliest reference to Jesus as a lion, can be found in Genesis, where Jacob (Israel) delivers parting words to each of his sons. When he arrives at Judah, his fourth born, Jacob says,

Genesis 49:8-10
8 “Judah, your brothers will praise you.
    You will grasp your enemies by the neck.
    All your relatives will bow before you.
9 Judah, my son, is a young lion
    that has finished eating its prey.
Like a lion he crouches and lies down;
    like a lioness—who dares to rouse him?
10 The scepter will not depart from Judah,
    nor the ruler’s staff from his descendants,[a]
until the coming of the one to whom it belongs,[b]
    the one whom all nations will honor.”

Today we will look at how we should respond to these challenges, recognizing the reliability of Scripture and with the Bible as our guide.

Fierce Times Are Coming: Navigating a Perilous World

Embracing the Challenge Ahead

Ladies and gentlemen, friends and fellow believers,

Today, we gather not to escape reality but to face it head-on. The world we live in is undergoing tremendous change, and these changes are not just around the corner - they're here, they're now, and they're fierce. That's what the Bible calls "perilous times."

The Perilous Times Are Upon Us

You might be wondering, how can we be so sure? The answer lies in the pages of 2 Timothy 3:1-5 and even in the Gospel of Matthew (specifically, Matthew 8:28).

This Is Absolutely Certain to Come

Church family, we're not talking about some distant possibility. We're talking about something as sure as the rising sun. It's not a matter of "if," but "when."

Three Main Factors Behind Perilous Times and let's dissect what's fueling these perilous times:

Basic Cause: Degeneration of Human Character
It all starts with us, with humanity. Our characters are degenerating, and unless we address this fundamental issue, no solution can truly save us.

Corruption Is Irreversible
The corruption isn't just in our hearts; it's in our world - spiritually and physically. The only way out? A fresh start. As it says in 2 Corinthians 5:17, "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation."

The Root: Love of Self
At the root of it all is something deeply ingrained in our human nature - self-love. And no "form of godliness" can mask that. We have to face it head-on.

Now, let's take a reality check. On any given day, just pick up a newspaper or scroll through a news website. You'll find headlines that make your heart sink. But you know what? It's not all bad news.

But God...

He's our eternal "but God." He raises a standard when the enemy comes in like a flood (Isaiah 59:19). The Holy Spirit is working, and there's a worldwide outpouring of His power, especially among the youth. This isn't the end; it's a new beginning.

How Should We Conduct Ourselves?

The question is, how should we respond? Well, the Bible is our guide, and it's as relevant today as it was thousands of years ago. It not only describes the problem but also shows us the way out.

Recognize the Reliability of Scripture

First and foremost, we need to recognize the reliability of Scripture. What's happening in our world is not catching God off guard. It confirms the very things He warned us about.

Limitless Opportunity to Do Good

In the midst of these times, there's a limitless opportunity for us to do good. It's a call to action. Think about it - each one of us can make a difference in someone's life, in society, and in the world.

God’s Ultimate Purpose

Finally, we need to remember God's ultimate purpose. He's making His own special people (Titus 2:11-14). You see, in these perilous times, we can be His witnesses, His lights, and His people.

So, friends, let's not be disheartened by the fierceness of our times. In fact, let's rise to the challenge. In the midst of the darkness, we can shine brighter. We can love selflessly, reach out, and be that source of hope for others.

As you go from our service  today, keep in mind that we're not just called to be mere survivors; we're called to be overcomers, even in the fiercest of times. 

Welcome, dear brothers and sisters, to a time of empowerment, warning, and inspiration in the presence of our Almighty God.
