Q&Q April 2021 - GRIFE

What a interesting year it has been. So many challenging changes, but I think we've all heard enough about those. 

Although it was an unsurprisingly very quiet year in terms of live gigs, I did get an opportunity I probably wouldn't have gotten under normal circumstances. A Quebec-based team of nature enthusiasts and electronic music patrons called Pasderoche reached out to invite me along on one of their adventures they call Escapades Sonores. Through their Escapades Sonores, Pasderoche has for a mission to promote local musical talent while promoting a sustainable lifestyle and an appreciation for Mother Earth and the gifts she provides. In collaboration with SÉPAQ, Pasderoche set me up on the frozen river that runs through the Parc national des Hautes-Gorges-de-la-Rivière-Malbaie which is located in the Charlevoix region of Quebec. The team also persuaded me to try something new and introduce a live element to a DJ set, something I had yet to attempt. There I stood, in the dead of the Canadian winter, surrounded by my decks and my guitar, about to try something new, for the sole benefit of the snow, the wind and the mountains around me. 

I am grateful that when I look back on 2020-2021, I'll have moments like this one to look back to.

We are honored to have over Dionisis Sternaras (Dio S) for the ninth edition of our 'Deep In Mix' series. Dionisis is a Greek DJ/Producer currently residing in Xanthi. He has been destroying dancefloors since 1995 when he started playing out the records he collected from a younger age, and eventually, he started his production career in 2005, adding more depth to his sounds. After 2008 he released his first tracks on vinyl to Method and Get Weird, he has released on major record labels like Sol Selectas, Get Weird, Stripped, Iboga, The Purr, Sound Avenue to name a few. His music has gained great feedback & support from Sasha, John Digweed, Nick Warren, Lee Burridge, Tripswitch, Kidnap Kid, Groove Armada, Eric Prydz, Cid Inc, Markus Schulz & many more top DJs. 

He likes to play more of Deep House, Organic House, Progressive House mixed with a pinch of Dark Disco & Nu Dance. He has played extensively across Greece at well-known festivals like Bloque Festival (Kavala), Reborn Festival (Limnos Island), Parasol (Mitilini Island) and one of his favorite memory was at Gossip Downtown (Larissa).  He also has a downtempo project by the name of Cayo Largo, with 3 albums already in the market.

"Artists like Radiohead, Boards of Canada, Craig Armstrong, Max Richter and Ólafur Arnalds are my major musical influences. Also, my good friend Kosmas (Epsilon) and my family are the major sources of my inspiration. This mix flows between Deep Organic and Progressive House, it is an exclusive mix as it showcases only my music, mostly upcoming releases and I would like the listeners to recognize it, feel it and enjoy it", he shares.

Nuclear Implosion

I’m truly humbled to finally share with you all the “Dreamtales” concept with this first Chapter of its mixed series. As the title suggests, each of chapter will “tell” a story that will unfold a musical world of its own, interpreted the way you perceive it. No time frame will be limiting the storytelling chapters - they may be short or long ones, depending on where the journey leads to. However the “Dreamtales”  will focus on more laid-back, deep organic, brighter and overall positively sounding vibes - simply put, such that would easily put you in a chilled state of daydreaming, relaxing your senses. On the other hand, I feel obliged mentioning that this would only be the half of it, once again dedicated to Daytime musical experiences - The other half aims at what happens after dusk and will be be focused on more deeper underground sound, that will bring the dance ritual along - tribal beats and rhythms, dramatic melodies and powerful baselines, chants and progressive melodies, more drama and intenseness. “Enchantments” is the title that I’ve picked for this other side of project that has been in development in my mind for at least an year and “Chapter I - Nightshades”  is on it’s way very soon!!!
I’m proud to say this all finally gets shaped the way I really wanted it to be and  hopefully, step by step after the launching of the mixed series, events exploring these concepts will follow. Enjoy!
