If I were to paint the sound that I imagine for this piece, the painting might look like thick water that gently flows through time with tiny crystalline reflections, almost like a salted caramel. The music follows the journey of a single long, ever-expanding tune; sometimes glowing, sometimes dimming, sometimes yearning to break through yet being stopped. When I hear this tune as I compose, I feel nostalgia for a past I never had. The tune makes me feel sentimental and intimate, yet eerie at the same time. I see a sparkle as I try to hear it, I feel the gentleness as I hum the tune. I wonder along the way as I compose: how will this music unfold at the end?
The tune makes me feel the same way I feel for my grandmother, after whom I named the piece. We lost her in September of 2o22 and I miss her dearly.
