Today, Berlin-based artist O-SHiN has shared beat-laden new single ‘Silence Is My Nature’. In 2021 O-SHiN shared critically acclaimed single ‘Holy Night’, a kaleidoscopic triumph, calling to mind the technicolour electronica of acts like Four Tet and Maribou State that garnered widespread support from the likes of BBC Radio 1, BBC Radio 6 Music and Clash Magazine. 

Born in Germany after her parents returned home from the Soviet Union in the 1970s, O-SHiN found her voice through experimentation, and an inner journey that continues today. The name O-SHiN, meaning “time for a good cry” in Japanese, is symbolic of her relationship with existence. Moving from Germany to the Netherlands, spending a lot of time in Sweden and the States, she finally settled in Berlin, a fertile breeding ground for her artistic outlets.

New single ‘Silence Is My Nature’ refers to the unspoken bond between two people who love each other. On her new single, O-SHiN says: 

“This track was written a long time ago, probably 8 years back, when my friends and I went to a place in the Netherlands where we jammed all day long and wrote songs. This was one of the songs that started there. My guitar player Francesco Taranto wrote with the guitar line and I fell in love with it. Together we came up with the lyrics and melody collaboratively. The main parts were written that night when we jammed and every time we played it in the rehearsal room the song developed further.

The recording came together like a collage. We recorded the guitars on the night it was written. Then a year later we went to a hut in Sweden and recorded drums and some other parts. I took those recordings back to Berlin and recorded over it and added a new psychedelic ending”. 

The release of ‘Silence Is My Nature’ comes alongside news that O-SHiN’s long awaited debut album is complete and scheduled for release in Autumn 2022. With her new material, O-SHiN encapsulates many of the conflicting emotional and societal dilemmas that she has observed since she was a young girl. Issues like loss, acceptance and also appreciation for life have become particularly prominent in her lyrics after a dramatic experience of being on an aeroplane with a terrorist. ‘Silence Is My Nature’ is available to stream today exclusively via Bandcamp and will be available on streaming services tomorrow.

After a heavy regimen of touring both domestically and abroad, followed by two years of a global pandemic, Los Angeles' Numb.er is back with the biting new single, “Congratulations; Stay Safe.” The song is an honest, acerbic look at outward perceptions and the inner turmoil that often lies just beneath the surface. Written during a particularly dark period for Fribourg in 2019, “Congratulations” examines the sense of alienation he experienced being surrounded by people who failed to recognize his internal struggles. While friends and family were saying “congratulations” for his perceived stability and success, Fribourg developed a more appropriate mantra for that dangerously spiraling version of himself: “stay safe.”
