Pakatelas is hosted by author-poet Michael Medrano on KFCF 88.1 Free Speech Radio in Fresno, California. In this episode, which aired February 13, 2014, Steve Pacheco joined Medrano. Pacheco is from the Lower Sioux Indian Community, a small reservation in southwestern Minnesota, where he currently resides.  He is the co-author of Shedding Skins: Four Sioux Poets (Michigan State University Press, 2008), and has recently been a guest editor for the literary journal Yellow Medicine Review. Steve has worked in education for 14 years—previously as an academic and guidance counselor/advocate for Native youth from his community. Currently, Steve is an Assistant Professor of English at Southwest Minnesota State University where he teaches both writing and literature courses.

Author Nick Belardes Talks The Lackey On The Scott Cox Show

Nicholas Belardes’s work often combines elements of literary, horror, and science fiction. The New York Times Book Review said his first book, The Deading “perfectly balances social critique, lyricism and ghastliness. It’s a claustrophobic mosaic of a novel, and an outstanding debut.” Belardes’s follow up, Ten Sleep (2025), which has been praised in Booklist, Publishers Weekly and Library Journal, blends elements of gothic and eco-horror with Western fiction. While attending UCR Palm Desert’s MFA Program, Belardes received its Founder’s Award. When not writing, he’s either birdwatching or teaching essay writing at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo’s Ethnic Studies Program.
