Reminiscent nostalgia springs to mind when we listen to ‘Distant Memories’, a seamless expression of old-school jazz roots & new age production.
Almost a dozen layers of trumpet are layered upon each other, accompanied by a minimal drum beat & flowing chord changes to create a short yet succinct piece that requires repeat listening on the regular. 
The track is a collaborative piece between BrassTracks, a Brooklyn based trumpeter /producer / drummer duo & Alexander Lewis, Multi instrumentalist / producer recently graduated from Manhattan School of Music Jazz Program.

I really envy beat-makers that know how to sample. This song was simply just a way of practicing chopping samples and trying to get them all to fit within a tempo. Obviously, I'm not great at it, but I think I'm kinda getting somewhere! Right? Na? Okay. I wrote the song less than an hour, so really I just wanted to have some fun with this song! Hope you like it!

Background Story

Misato: For example, sunny days make you feel good.
Rei: Rainy days make you feel gloomy.
Asuka: If you are told this is so, then that is what you believe is so.
Ritsuko: But you can have fun on a rainy day as well!
Fuyutsuki: Your truth can be changed simply by the way you accept it. That's how fragile the truth for a human is.

I was watching Evangelion a few weeks ago and the dialogue above really stood out to me, because it related to me personally when describing how I felt about 2014. It's hard to believe this year is already coming to a close. It's been a tough one, with many of us experiencing many heartbreak all over the world. Lots of tragic events have taken place, and it's been sad to see so many people go through these tough times. I had some bad experiences this year tool but getting so stuck in them made me realise how easy it is for us to simply cling onto the bad, while failing to cherish the good. So to me, yes. It rained this year. But who said you couldn't go dance in the rain?

A lot of us are waiting for it to be over because 2014 has been horrible, but I'm excited for 2015 because I know it's awesome!
