Chapter One:

The grass was singing lullabies that summer afternoon,
When time got stuck in honey and the clocks forgot their tune.
A pocket watch went scurrying through the dandelion fluff,
And I followed like a dreamer who's never dreamt enough.
The bottles whispered secrets, the door handles sighed,
Every "Drink Me" potion came with truth inside...
Down the rabbit hole, where the logic bends,
Where flowers give you sermons and the talking cats pretend.
The Queen keeps shouting orders but her kingdom's made of sand,
I didn't jump—the world just let me go...(let me go)
The Hatter poured his riddles into cups of chamomile,
While the Dormouse murmured prophecies between each sleepy smile.
The cards were painting crimson on the white rose petals there,
Covering their mistakes with such meticulous care.
 sentenced me to nonsense at the trial in my head,
The verdict? "Guilty of growing up," the jury said...
Down the rabbit hole, where the logic bends,

Now I'm home with dirt-stained knees and wonder in my hair,
The kind that doesn't wash out no matter how you care.
That looking-glass still calls me when the morning light is thin,
Between the "once upon" and "time we begin."
madness isn't losing where the edges are,
But remembering how wide the universe was as a child,
Down, down, where the lost things go... didn't jump—you know....

An instrumental song written for string quartet + piano + oboe, with oboe playing the starring role.

I was in a pretty jolly mood when I wrote most of this and I think it influenced the way the song came out - most of the time I'm not trying to capture any specific emotion when writing but this song is sort of an exception, at least in places.
