Belgian house maestro UC Beatz delivers an emotive disco-house bomb with his track ‘Orchid’s Wish’. A hazy and powerful filtered pad builds the pressure on top of clever percussion filled with bells, offbeat toms and driving hi-hats. The famous Nu Groove is about as influential as they come when you're talking about early house music. It had its own distinctive New Yorkian twist with much material on it produced by the legendary Burrell Brothers. Here we are reminded why it is such a vital label with an EP from Acid Jerks that embodies everything that made it so: warm kick drums, musical melodies and a sense of soul that is impossible to ignore. After a smooth opener, 'Distant Power Plant' has a more raw and menacing bassline tearing up the raw drums and 'A Thousand Kisses' then leans into a serene techno vibe but still with house music as the foundation. The warm late-night chords of closer 'Organ Grinder' make it the standout.

Utrecht duo Sudden Moves-previously known as T.U.R.F. have been rapidly gaining fans and acclaim with their distinctive brand of disco house thumpers in the past couple of years. Their new 2-tracker for Australia's Refuge Recordings channels vintage late-'90s filter funk and French touch in beautifully authentic style, with the bumping groove and peppy beats of 'So Fresh, So Green' complemented nicely by the slightly more urgent 'Long Time' with its condensed horn blasts and infectious vocal refrains.

With a slew of releases on such respected imprints as Dam Swindle’s Heist Recordings and NYC’s Let’s Place House, Amsterdam based duo Makèz have been steadily building their reputation as purveyors of Jazz infused house music. Having worked on tracks with Inner City, Folamour, and Nebraska (and been remixed by Dego & Orlando Voorn) they now announce the launch of their own label Sonic Soil with the scorching single ‘Love You More’, which features Melbourne’s Allysha Joy (30 / 70 Collective) alongside fellow Amsterdammers Gallowstreet, accompanied by dancefloor-ready remix from Mr G.

After meeting for the first time, Kees and Willem instantly recognized each other’s passion for music. Their love for house, disco, jazz, and hip-hop served as a foundation for their friendship and, later on, for their musical partnership. The resulting output of their creative efforts blends the essence of genres and eras they feel inspired by, and their own ideas to the mix, creating an instantly recognizable slice of soulful electronic music. In the studio, the two are in perfect harmony. Willem is in charge of creating the soul-soothing chords and melodies that define the duo’s sound, while Kees brings the rhythm that provides a steady foundation for each track.

With additions coming from Amsterdam’s finest brass outfit Gallowstreet, ‘Love You More’ takes influence from classic West London Bruk, completed with a 2023 edge - melding Jazz progressions with club ready energy . Allysha Joy is on top form here, her soul elevating vocals lifting the proceedings to a new spiritual plane. On the flip, UK legend Mr. G transforms the track into an anthem for underground dance floors, delivering raw, hypnotic drums and distorted basslines like only he can. Not too shabby for a first release.

Drawing on his curiosity by exploring a wide range of styles, NN seeks out those lesser-known gems, new and old. He puts his all into every set; meticulously selecting tracks and effortlessly jumping between styles while breathing excitement onto the dancefloor. As a Toronto-based DJ, he’s played at the city’s favourite dance spots alongside the likes of Black Loops, Chris Stussy, and Paolo Rocco. Internationally, he’s brought his signature sound to clubs and events in the United States, Sweden, and Indonesia. 

In the studio, he draws on inspiration from artists like Mr. G, Dam Swindle, and Felipe Gordon, producing tracks that are drenched in soul and groove. His unique sampling style of vocals creates warm atmospheres, lush melodies, and raw rhythmic grooves. He’s deeply influenced by the connective and emotive qualities of nature and infuses earthy and soul-soothing vibes in his music. 

His debut single ‘Recognize’ has received support from Demuja, he’s launched a ‘Sunroom Sessions’ live mix series and has plans for upcoming gigs and new music released soon. Nicholas Nothing is only just getting started!
