From his humble beginnings as a homeless teenager living in the shop doorways of west end London, the past 25 years have taken Carl Nicholson on a journey that can only be described as the story of a true underdog.

From pulling himself from the slums, Carl learnt his craft from the undisputed king of dance, the late, great Tony de Vit, and then went on, armed with Tony's Trade record bag, to bag himself a residency as the worlds No.2 club Fabric, play huge UK festivals such as Glastonbury & Bull Dog Bash, and across the world for Soundscape (NZ) & Tranceport (ARG) plus many more.

From there Carl took over the world of UK Hard Trance in the mid 2000's, clocking up huge releases on the hierarchy of harder edged sounds including Nukleuz & Tidy Trax, earning himself a Silver BPI award for 
'Times like These' that was featured on the ever popular 'Extreme Euphoria' series, and signing to over 40 other compilations over the next decade, also not forgetting clocking up numerous Radio 1 plays including 
one by Kutski debuting his remix of the Tony de Vit classic, 'The Dawn'.

Since 2013 Carl has been concentrating his efforts on his first and foremost love, Trance music.'

In this time he has notched up numerous releases on some of Trance's most prolific underground labels such as Perfecto Fluoro, Universal Nation, Pharmacy, Discover Dark & Rise and remixed some of the biggest Trance 
artists in history including Binary Finary & Marmion.  His tracks are revered worldwide with staunch support from the likes of Paul Van Dyk, Jordan Suckley, Alex M.O.R.P.H and Sean Tyas to name just a few.

And 2017 just seems to be going from strength to strength with the imminent release of his new album 'ART', and interest from all corners of the globe, the future indeed has never looked brighter.'

After his Beatport #1  album 'ART' this time last year, 'Nicholson' claimed huge accolade with a DMC & Mixmag feature, and this then led to a sonic avalanche of remixes of some of the most prolific tracks our scene has to offer.  These were them picked up by scene hierarchy including Armin Van Buuren, Ferry Corsten & Solarstone, and from there on in the name 'Nicholson' was always going to be force to be reckoned with.  So Carl, not resting on his laurels, gave himself a goal.  To make a sonic encapsulation of his personal story, highs & lows, the whole testament. In his own words, here is his reasons :-

‘With this album I tried to make something to sonically encapsulate the story of my life from beginning DJ'ing whilst homeless in a doorway In west end London, right through to this current day. To do this its heavily vocal driven which allowed me to come out of my comfort zone and tell the story i was aspiring to and challenge myself creatively, every track holds a personal meaning to each episode of my life that is significant to me, thus creating that story line that is not only familiar to me, but to others too with their own journeys. I feel its my personal best work to date, and I hope that you feel the emotion & soul that I beared in order to create it. It almost feels that I gave a part of of my soul to it that can never be replaced, but ill let you be the judge of that.'

There are few that can say they were there when the acid house boom fully erupted in the early nineties, most artists have a very short career span and many ride the wave that they have caught until it reaches fruition, then pack up their headphones and return to their everyday life.  But there are a small handful of artists whom never seem to disappear, these few, are the true soldiers of sound, the ones that no matter how hard things get, and how tough the hills are to climb, they always manage to stay on their path whilst others fall by the wayside.

London born & Bred Carl Nicholson is without doubt one of these people, Carl started his journey way back in 1990 as an Hardcore MC, and after months of watching top end DJ’s at the time such as Micky Finn & Carl Cox, Carl decided to see what all the hype was about and give it a shot himself, and after 6 gruelling months of his very own brand of ‘Wild Horses’ mixing, Carl got a feel for it and the rest as they say is history.

In the summer of 1994, Carl came across a tape, a tape that was to change his life forever, this tape was the Tony de Vit mix on the massively popular ‘Retrospective of House’ compilation by Fantazia, and Carl simply could not believe his ears.  From that day forward Carl lived, ate, and slept all things TdV, he used to follow him around London whenever he was playing, find a good spot near the decks and just stand, watch and listen.

After about 6 months, Carl finally got the courage up to speak to Tony, and bear in mind to Carl, Tony was a musical God of monstrous proportions, so this was no easy task to say the least, but after a few minutes of chatting with him, Carl realised that this man was just like any other guy, he wasn’t a god, he was a normal friendly bloke who had just happened to be in the right place at the right time, and that gave Carl a confidence, something he had lacked in early years, and it dawned on him that with hard work, dedication and a burning passion for the music and the people it attracted, anything was possible.

Since 1995 Carl has been on the forefront of the UK Underground dance scene, he began his journey living in a doorway in the west end of London, learnt his craft from the undisputed king of Hard House, Tony de Vit.  He’s played alongside everyone from Fatboy Slim, Farley Jackmaster Funk, Frankie Knuckles & Chemical Brothers to Judge Jules, John ‘OO’ Fleming, Paul Van Dyk & Lisa Lashes for virtually every major hard edged brand and festival in the UK & Worldwide including Cream, Judgement Sundays, Frantic, Fevah, Glastonbury Festival, Insomniacz, Bulldog Bash, Miss Moneypennys, Soundscape (NZ), B2T, Traxx (SA), Timeless, Hard Dance Ibiza (IBZ), Sundissential, Trance port Festival (ARG), Round Bass (NL) & Tasty to name only a handful, plus he is the only Hard Dance DJ to have received a residency at the world famous Fabric nightclub in London for DTPM.
