RIverbend

This is a preview track for my show on the 22nd March, this Sunday @ 7pm w/ the Projection, and also a sample of my new project "Nick Fury and the le with Furious 5".  I don't swear much, and I wrestle with it. The language is representative of the issues, in this case. Enjoy :)

Superstars

This is the first pop song I have ever written.  My lady of 3 years, Brie, said that she didn't want flowers or a material gift for Valentine's Day. I suggested that I could write a song for her.  It was a joy.  She woke me up, and she was the first partner I had ever been with that I could love unconditionally, a genius and a very impressive musician.  The hymn section at the end is in reference to her tattoo, a heart with 'I Bind my Wandering Heart to Thee'.  Please enjoy it, and forgive the poor editing.  

Past Presents Future

Emma is a song I hold very dear to my heart.  I wrote it some time ago and have yet to share it.  It was all by accident, from top to bottom.  It started as a sound experiment, with the idea that an echoed synth, as appears in the beginning, can be used to create a constant texture.  The sound of it drew me to continue, and I started to write what I thought was a love song for my lady Brie.  Then I absently continued to write the second verse, or really the second section, and realized that it wasn't a love song for her at all.

It was a love song for a child that I lost once, one who I was going to name Emma.  It was always going to be a girl, and that was always going to be her name.  I could barely hold back tears enough to record the vocals, and some inconsistencies will be noticed.  I left them, though, deliberately, because I would never be able to lay anything down with as much truth in it.  

The ending, too, was by accident.  I was going to continue the song, and I played the last melody, which I like to think of as Emma herself, with a sustained pitch.  The pitch sounded like machinery, a heart monitor, and the slowing heartbeat materialized of that as-yet unacknowledged recognition.  My little brother Dan told me it was enough, and it was.  

Thank you for listening to this, thank you even more if you read this.  I hope that this song can be a window into some joy and catharsis for those who have also experienced the loss of a child or any loved one.

This is the first beat that I went for a ceremonial feel, and used the alternate bass drum.  I do the vocals, and there are no samples.
