This is song is taken from the EscapedGoat archives and will be part of a series of unreleased tracks from 2006-2009. 

EscapedGoat was a band that comprised of founding members Nick Garza, Jody Neal, Jeff Bumgarner, and Jeremy Soto. The band later had a lineup change with Steven Raney appearing on bass for a short time. After Steven's departure the band continued as a trio until 2009.

EscapedGoat 2006 FOREVER! Second Jam Together Jeff, Jeremy, Jody, Nick

This was probably the second track we played together as an original tune along with Forever. This one was penned by Jody Neal and the band filled out the rest. This literally only the second time we ever played together. While the recording is very primitive it displayed the chemistry we were quickly building together with this one and 'Forever'.

EscapedGoat: ‘Conversation’ / Tales From The Goathouse

This song was a part of our acoustic side that we were wanting to contrast everything else we were doing. This was a song written by Jeremy Soto and Nick Garza, when introduced to the band during the early sessions, it quickly became one everyone was enthused about. Jeff contributed great mandolin parts. The banter and laughing is because Jeff was standing in the bathroom shower when we recorded his parts. It was quite hilarious and had to been there. Jody Neal: "Did you shit?" Classic in between chatter.

EscapedGoat: 'El Dorado' Jeff's Living Room (The Bathroom Sessions)

After some time as a quartet Jeremy our bass player, decided to leave the band to pursue other interests and was replaced by a long time school friend Steven Raney. This was a song that Jody Neal had in his quiver and shared at the first session with Steven. It quickly became EscapedGoat lore. The energy in the room was electric and we were quickly developing a punk rock edge. This is and will always be a favorite of mine. Recorded in Jeff's living room. Just an 8 track and a single mic in the room to capture the instruments and PA. Fucking shoestring!

EscapedGoat:  'Kill It' (Jody's Mix STEVEN BASS)

This was a song I brought to the group. It was a pop song when it was created but quickly morphed into tongue and cheek bluegrass session when Jeff used his mandolin to create lead lines in between the verses. It was a very basic song and chord structure but the mandolin just made it pop and Jody's drumming was always to serve the song. This eventually became an electric song when played live and only played acoustically a handful of times. We went on later to record at Simple Groove and really made it a Heady tune with recording magic. I'll share that one soon as we progress in to the chronology of EscapedGoat.

EscapedGoat: ‘CONTROVERSIAL AFFAIR’

Blackboots was a tune Jeff wrote and brought to the band in the early stages after moving from the practice shed to his house for band rehearsals. While this song was a staple during the early months of EscapedGoat this recording is when Steven Raney joined the band to handle bass duties and vocals. We'll see this one again when we record at Simple Groove to capture a better sound.

EscapedGoat:  Black Boots

Bet your Mama was a Jeff riff started playing in the jam room one day during the early practice sessions with Steven on bass. Our close friend John Manuel was always present during practice sessions and helped pen the lyric "I'm a 40 hour work week lover, sorry babe it don't get much better" Ha!. Unfortunately Bet Your Mama never got a studio session but was a rocker live. 

This was a new phase for us as were moving away from the acoustic stuff and started to explore roots music in the way of electric blues which turned into a Memphis R&B funk jam. Punk was starting to creep into the song list as well with 'Kill It' and 'Impression'. We also introduced psychedelia through 'Isn't Amazing' & jam through "Guns Of Bunny"

EscapedGoat: Bet Your Mama

This was just an improv jam that started as we were searching for inspiration for new songs. We were sharing the bill with acts that were a little more heavy than we were and so influenced us to find something within us. The result was 'Kill It', 'A Different Impression', 'Bet Your Mama' and later 'Heavy/Long Room'. 

What you're hearing is a jam with no preconceived notions of where it's going to go, cringe and all :) Steven had that bass line and we just went from there. We used this jam as a warm up and sound check.

EscapedGoat: Easy Rider

So I had this instrumental and brought it to the band as a possible song idea. So we had started playing this song very early on and even at our live debut at Kudzu's. Again it was only an instrumental at the time. Fast forward about a year later and Jeff brings this idea of a fantastical story about a gun toting rabbit. He penned the lyrics and the we began to perform the song as 'The Guns Of Bunny'.

We later cut it at Apogee with some cool synth intro and epic end that we added during the recording sessions.

EscapedGoat: The Guns Of Bunny

Isn't It Amazing was an epic psychedelic track that followed in the vain of Bunny but a conveyed a more emotive feeling. Jeff was beginning to explore his effects and we all contributed to the lyrics on this one and was truly a group effort. On this track we were already down to a trio once more and we're all about the song. No over playing, just serve the song. Live we sang all together however when we cut the track we trimmed the vocals back. Jody mixed this live practice rehearsal with reverse effects which would be a springboard for the intro for the studio recording. I can tell we were all proud of this track and loved playing it.
