Inspiration Sessions Vol.4

Music has always been a pillar in my life.  I've leaned on music for joy, comfort, and peace since as long as I can remember.  Recording mixes has been a process in which I believe has made me a better DJ than I was before.  Every mix teaches me lessons.  It feels to me that this mix might be the sum of many lessons.  It feels like something special.

Now a new chapter has begun in my life that is bound to teach me many new lessons.  Our son Zander was born April 30th this year, and this mix is named after him.  Not because this music, and  curation of tunes is something he might like, or appreciate some day, but rather it's symbolic of the process of personal evolution, and the drive to always become better at things you love, and love to do.  This new craft for me is to try to perfect being a father.  I look forward to achieving the duality between being a great father, and being a better DJ.

Better late than never to drop this mix with a xmas themed track near the start to ring in the season.  Don't let the silly name, and artwork fool you.  This mix is chalked full of fire house, and electro sounds from current years, and the golden years of electro house. 

Down The Chimney

This is an all vinyl mix of house that was, and still is dear to me from years past.  If you were partying in the 2000-2008 time period you would recognize some of these tune's I'm sure!

No actual toe's were stubbed during this recording.

However the mix is not perfect, but is a good snap shot of the different styles of house I like to blend together on a regular basis.

This mix has some darker, and slower sounds in the front half, and build's into a more uplifting higher pace clubby sound near the back half.

Stubbed Toe

Completely improvised mix with zero planning, and all feeling.  First of many.  If you know me well this is how I record 90% of my mixes.  Throughout the decades of Dj'ing I've come to realize that this method spawns the most creativity and spontaneity.  Some mixes don't end up being cohesive, and rarely are they perfect, but with this process occasionally you catch lightning in a bottle.

I'll try to bring you only the best of these type of mixes in this series.  The genre's will change but the core idea will stay the same.

This type of sound keeps me coming back for more.  It jumps between indie dance, post punk, disco, and electro funk all while keep enough straight forward groove, and housey feel to put the hooks in you.

As of recently been checking out a lot of mixe's of Quest - hence the title of this program.

This is a nod to his style, but most certainly not anything close to what he's able to pull off on mostly vinyl.  Big up's to the underground, and tunes less discovered.  Diggin' deep in the crates for a lot of these selections.  Hopefully you appreciate to art of true dj'ing, art of curation via improvisation, and digging culture.

Quest Type Ish

Okay, okay. Quick history backstory.  Drums as a child, and through his 20's.  Turntables, and loads of vinyl before entering the digital realm.  Nick has been busy with all that noise for two and half decades.  Growing up on rock, grunge, 90's electronic, hip hop, and everything in between rounded out his senses for music, and what appealed to him.  A taste ever evolving leaving him playing house, techno, minimal, acid, downtempo, and breakbeat.  Now with over 20 years of experience you can expect great track selection, crowd reading, and flawless mixing.  This journey has seen him play in cities through Western Canada, and with larger acts from abroad including the likes of Mark Farina, Tipper, Kevin Yost, James Teej, Pezzner, Dirt Crew, Detroit Swindle, Noah Pred, Rob Paine, and many more.  

After spending many years as a key part of Left Coast Crew in Victoria BC as a DJ/Promoter, he is back In Saskatchewan where he started this journey. The new vision is to rekindle his old connections and push his promotion brand The Motive To Move (TM2) to new heights, and entertain as many party people as possible.
