Made a fun experimental Dubstep set.

Unlike my previous Dubstep for Dummies Series which was only Dubstep Anthems for those with less Dubstep knowledge out there, as an intro into the genre. This set is a little harder, a little more out there, a little less known and at times a little less melodic, but still kick ass. So maybe you can say for the more Dubstep inclined.

ABOUT TWITCH/NICK KOPA

Born in Toronto, Canada, Nick Kopachkov also known as Twitch and Nick Kopa first entered the world of underground dance music in the early 90’s. Inspired by the sounds of Canadian electronic music pioneers like Chris Sheppard and Smokin’ Joe, who were instumental in exposing underground dance music to Canada, Nick soon caught the DJ bug. In 1995 Nick purchased his first set of Turntables and it wasn’t long before he was DJing at events alongside some of the biggest names in the business. 

Early on in Nick’s DJing career he was influenced primarily by the sounds that were coming out of Europe at the time. It was one particular sound that caught his attention the most. A fast, hard and melodic sound which was often refered to as trance. At the time this particular type of music was not readily available in Toronto which made it very challenging for him to get his hands on it. Because of this Nick also played a lot of house music, which was his second love. Over time his collection grew and eventually Nick decided to concentrate his efforts strictly on promoting and playing the hard melodic trance which was making waves in Europe. It was this fresh new sound that led to Nick getting his first gigs at several small local rave parties. 

On June 28th 1997, Nick received his first big break when he was booked by George Hatiras (aka Hatiras) to play at one of his Liquid Adrenaline events. Regarded by many as one of the top rave promoters in Toronto, this was Nick’s first opportunity to play at a larger scale event, and thus expose his sound to the masses. The response was so overwhelming that Nick was asked to come back and play future Liquid Adrenaline events. This gig also led to regular gigs at many events in the city, as well as regular appearances for Liquid Adrenaline. In 1999 Nick was asked again to perform at a Liquid event. However, this time he was booked to perform along side close friend and DJ, Satori in the main room at the Docks Nightclub, which led to both of them receiving a residency with Liquid Adrenaline. Since that event Nick has become one of the most respected and well known members of the Toronto rave community with almost weekly gigs for most of the city’s promoters and in some of the largest venues.

 Over the years Nick’s sound has evolved from the more melodic hard trance of the early years to the harder more techno influenced tech trance that he maintains today. This sound has not only caught the attention of Toronto audiences but also people all over the country, and even in the U.S. In 2000 Nick had the opportunity to make his American debut at an event in Buffalo, New York. Since then he has been asked several times to come back to the city and has made several U.S. appearances. Most notably a gig in march 2001 at the legendary New York City Club The Tunnel, where he headlined along side Mistress Barbara, Gene Carbonnel, Allan Davis, and hip hop group The Beatnuts.

 In addition to his regular DJing Schedule Nick has also been kept busy with freelance graphic design work as well as promoting his own events, both of which under the name of his company Digital Love. In fact Nick is responsible for designing many, if not most, of the flyers for many of Toronto’s rave production companies. He has also promoted both all ages and licensed events across the city. One of which being the official all age after party for Toronto’s 2001 iDance rally. The rally itself drew over 20,000 people and the after party close to 2000. 

Highlights of Nick’s career include a residency at Toronto’s Legendary Limelight Nightclub, a residency with Liquid Adrenaline Productions, E-maiL productions and Biohazard as well as gigs for Hullabaloo, Serenity, Destiny, Dose and at WEMF (World Electronic Music Festival). His own show on Global Groove 89.5FM. And opening or closing for some of the worlds most respected DJs like, Nigel Dawson, Madame Zu, D.A.V.E. the Drummer, Sharkey, Vinyl Trixta, Dougal, and Anabolic Frolic.
