Well... I had to do a project where I created a bunch of synth sounds and use different types of synthesis and timbre for different tracks. I had Kyle tell a story and I scored it with these instruments. I also had a bit of fun putting effects on his voice :)

The Birds (feat. Kyle Garber)

Alright y'all... gonna get emotional these next couple weeks. I'm releasing a concept album based on the stages of grief (also based on I suppose real-life events). Obviously for anyone experiencing grief, these will go in no particular order.

HOWEVER, for me, this is the first of 5, one song released every week. This first one is for denial. Oh also, explicit language used (that'll be the case for the majority of the album/EP)

I. Denial (Whatever You Do, Don't Cry)

Number 2 in this series- hope you all like it :)

I was going for a bit more of a pared-down instrumentation compared to the other songs on the album and had some fun building/playing with some more synths here.

II. Depression (I Feel the Loneliness Setting In)

The third entry in the musical diary of mine. Something a little more spiritually-influenced for your listening pleasure today. One of the more heartfelt and emotional works I feel I've ever put out.

Underneath The Tree (featuring Ben Romanelli)

Scored for 2 cellos, bass clarinet, and flute

A 3-movement tone poem interpreting and illustrating the dramatic events in a 3-episode story arc from Star Wars: The Clone Wars (season 3, ep. 15, 16, 17). This piece quotes many melodies, familiar to at least the biggest Star Wars fanatics among us. Themes from John Williams and Kevin Kiner will be used and repurposed as thematic material throughout the piece.

Mortis deals with three characters, each represented by a certain sound: Son (bass clarinet), Daughter (flute), and Father (the 2 cellos together as one), each embodying a specific part of the Force (Dark Side, Light Side, and the balance between them). 

Conflict between opposing characters is represented with more tense music, more dissonant harmonies, and interruption of the rest of the ensemble by the bass clarinet.

It was a crazy idea a few days ago from my friend Ben (who sings lead on this) to arrange Wham!'s "Last Christmas" with a more vintage jazz feel. So I did my best and added a bit of my "Nick twist" to it.

It's even more poignant now after the tragic news of George Michael's sudden passing. This is now not only a fun arrangement, but an homage to one of pop's greatest modern singers.

I Shall Be Released

My dad used to sing this song to me all the time as a kid and as an adult, we jammed on it a couple times. I had the chance to make my vision of it come to life with my dearest dad on lead vocals and rhythm guitar.

My baby! One of my most recent passion projects, brought to you not only by me, but by some of my best friends as well. This song is originally performed by the band A Lion Named roar. I heard it on a Pandora station and loved it so I thought it could do with an a cappella treatment.

In order of appearance, we have me, Kyle Garber, Rob Varela, Ben Romanelli, and David Fernandes. You all know Kyle as my bandmate (1/3 of Awesome Distraction) and Ben from some of my other projects. David and Rob attended Berklee with me as well and sang in the a cappella group: The CharlieChords.
