Commissioned by Egoyan through the Canada Council for the Arts.

Premiered at the Small World Music Centre in Toronto, Oct 16th-18th, 2015.  The recording is a composite of live recordings from the three evenings. 

"Byland is another word for a peninsula. While writing this piece, an image that I tended to come back to in my own daydreaming process was a long sliver of land surrounded by water. I'm reluctant, though, to foist this image on the listener, let alone the piece, so I selected this title over its more common synonym with the hope that one might come to both the word and work itself with fewer specific associations. 

I would like to acknowledge Canada Council for the Arts who funded the commissioning of this piece.  I'm also grateful to Eve for suggesting this collaboration.  I would also like to extend a special thank-you to Tilman Lewis who provided our initial introduction. "
