A symbol for quality techno music going back 15 years, Jay Lumen makes his solo EP debut on Drumcode.

A dance music journeyman with over 70 releases and a quality imprint Footwork Audio to his name, Jay Lumen’s solo debut EP on Adam Beyer’s label is richly deserved. The artist has been in standout form recently, most notably contributing ‘Galactic Rainbow’ to A-Sides Vol.10, one of the highlights of the compilation. We got our first taste of Lumen on Drumcode way back in 2012 when he teamed with Gary Beck for the rhythmic gem ‘Lotus’. Nine years on, his next EP offering doesn’t disappoint.

‘Returning’ is marked by crushing drumlines and shuffling beats, before gradually building into an emotional chord driven cut that looks hopefully towards the future. ‘Mind’ contrasts this perfectly, a loopy monster that rolls for days, evoking a distinct old skool spirit.
Speaking about the title track, Lumen explains: “I wrote ‘Returning’ when I was in a period of really missing techno and the party community. The physical contact with people at events, as well as on the streets and at venues before the shows. Hugs and interactions. I can already imagine playing this at the first open air after lockdown as the sun sets. This track is about the reunion and happiness we’re all going to share.”

Drumcode returns with its 6th installment of the internationally celebrated A-Sides series. Renowned for fostering a shared space between industry tastemakers and rising talent alike, the careful curation that goes into each volume is a fine example of why Beyer’s brand continues to go from strength to strength.

Techno titan Adam Beyer has grown Drumcode into a force to be reckoned with; the label has become synonymous with forward-thinking, functional techno and even after 20 years, Drumcode continues to find new boundaries to push, and ways to solidify its legacy as the world’s number one techno label. 

2017 is no exception, with Beyer’s imprint hosting it’s first stage at Tomorrowland, not to mention the expansion of the critically acclaimed Junction 2 where the Drumcode stage is the centrepiece and Adam plays the key role of festival director. The Drumcode phenomenon continues to grow each week, chiefly fuelled by Drumcode Radio, Adam’s radio show that’s broadcast in 57 countries via 86 stations and to a global audience of 16 million techno fans per week. 

The A-Sides series acts as a perfect vignette of Drumcode’s cutting-edge sound; functional yet inspired techno, all tracks tried and tested by Beyer himself. Vol. 6 continues this tradition with a collection of 16 multi-faceted cuts from a mixture of both emerging artists and experienced label friends. 

The heart-throbbing bass in Amelie Lens’ electrifying piece ‘In Silence’ sets the tone for the dark and dance-floor-ready energy that Vol.6 carries the whole way through. Other standouts include Mars Bill’s rough’n’ready ‘Mohave’. Pulsating and precise, ‘Mohave’ has highlighted many of Beyer’s sets recently as has Wehbba’s monster track ‘Fake’, which fans have been anticipating the release of all year. 

Label-favourites Dense & Pika also feature on ‘A-Sides’ Vol. 6 with their hard-hitting ‘Just a Beat’ and a huge track from Beyer himself who has joined forces with Enrico Sangiuliano to bring us their undeniably infectious ‘Preset Heaven’. 

With many more notable selections from the likes of Julian Jewell, Timmo, Tiger Stripes and Pig&Dan, A-Sides Vol. 6 is another impressive addition to the label’s prolific release roster and a testament to why Drumcode remains at the forefront of the electronic world.

Ramiro Lopez drops the electrifying follow up to his ‘Pretending’ EP from May this year. 

For almost a decade, Spain’s Ramiro Lopez has established himself as one his country’s leading proponents of techno, with strong releases across labels that include Suara, Intec, Octopus Recordings and Bedrock. He first debuted on Drumcode in 2016 with the rousing collaborative track ‘Clap Your Hands’ that ranked among one of the label’s standout tracks for the year. With one Drumcode release already under his belt in 2017 and a new label project Odd Recordings with fellow DC cohort Arjun Vagale recently launched, he’s enjoying another strong year.

His return to the label comes in the form of ‘Being Alone’, a powerful trio of cuts, all of which featured in Adam Beyer’s Awakenings Festival Day 1 performance. The title track is a multi-layered weapon, propelled by a dizzying vocal, swirling synth effects and pin-sharp percussion that build toward a smooth classy finish. ‘Dark Science’ is an effective stomper brought to life by a bell chime hookline and undulating synth melody ensuring its peak-time prowess. ‘Der Raum’ rounds out the EP, highlighted by Lopez’s deft drum work, proceeded by a driving, euphoric climax.

Ten years ago, Berlin’s Pan-Pot put out the Confronted EP on Mobilee, a landmark release centred around the title track, eleven and a half minutes of slow-burning techno. A decade later, the Second State dons have decided to celebrate their classic track with a reissue that reflects their evolution. Featuring three remixes from Pan-Pot themselves, Tassilo Ippenberger and Thomas Benedix have also recruited four of the scene’s hottest talents for a diverse, comprehensive remix package that reimagines the source material for today’s dancefloors.

Opening up the remix package, the “Basement” remix by Pan-Pot adds barking synths and snatches of vocal FX in a murky, offbeat edit of the classic. Glaswegian rising star Frazi.er delivers a “Raw”, lean techno tool with subtle tweaks like the crystalline synths piping through the mix and aggressive, springy bass that charges in mid- way through. Farrago, a Lenske favourite from Belgium, takes the listener on a weirder journey built around bounces, bleeps and discombobulation – it’s by far the most foreign departure on the EP and it lives up to the “Welcome to Goa” title.

The “Up In The Air” remix by Pan-Pot removes the pounding kick and turns the mood tribal with steel drums and rubbery, muted basslines. It’s a housier cut well suited to wonky wigouts. French newcomer [ Wex 10 ] takes care of the “Bigroom” remix, ushered in by an outsized, unapologetic kick soon joined by the original’s ominous chords and the cool, detached female vocal. [ Wex 10 ] picks up the BPM, adds some snare rolls and turns in a fist-pumping version for festivals and superclubs. Up-and-comer Anfisa Letyago, from Naples by way of Siberia, sends a rippling acid synth through the mix like lightning in a hi-NRG alternative perfect for trancier sets in her “Stranger” remix. The word “crazy” is set on an electrifying loop, commanding ravers to give in and let go.

Closing the remix EP, the “Paradise” remix by Pan-Pot goes in the opposite direction, opening with bird calls and idyllic chiming synths before moving into breaksy territory. Surprising and strangely dreamy, it completes a richly varied remix package that breathes new life into a beloved classic.

The music has been the largest passion in the life of Nick and Danny Chatelain and they have always felt the need to share
that passion with other people. Gurus in their native Spain, Nick and Danny had their first encounter with music at the
tender age of 8 and 6 years respectively, their father was one of the first deejays in Ibiza to emerge at the end of the 60s
(Club Nito's).
Nick and Danny grasped the attention of the legendary record label Ovum Recordings, creating their own distinctive style
of the sound of the dance floor. The presentation of N&D to the World was marked with the release of Is Killing Me
(2005). The release was a huge success and topped numerous charts around the world as well as being an essential tune
for any set list. Is Killing Me has gone on to be named as one of the most influential releases of that era.
N&D are two of the Spanish deejays with the highest international presence and are globally respected in the electronic
scene. They have played in such venues as Club Catwalk & Fellini (Barcelona,SP), SeOne & Ministry of Sound
(London,UK), Space, Cameo & Glass at the Forge (Miami,US), Penetra Ibiza (World Tour), El Divino (Ibiza,SP), Mixclub
(Paris,FR), Estereo & Plazma (Bulg), Club 1171 (Moscouw,RU), Roxy & Mecca (Cheq.Repl), Stereo (Ukraina), Moa

Killing Me (licensed in more than 15 countries), Caliente, Katrinyla and Rumba (also licensed in more than 10
countries) to name a few. Their releases have consistently charted high in the Beatport 100 and on numerous occasions
sat high in the Top 10. Many of their tracks have been licensed for compilations including mixes from Josh Wink,
Funkagenda, HCCR, Pete Tong, Roger Sanchez and Carl Cox as well as for some of the biggest label compilations from
Defected, CR2, Universal, Milk & Sugar, Toolroom Records, Pacha, and Ministry of Sound among others.
Expanding further their need to release great music, Nick & Danny Chatelain have created their own labels Goanche
Recordings and Uniform Inflow. Both labels have been extremely successful with each of the releases entering high in
numerous charts including the Beatport 100. The label Goanche has featured releases from such artists as Nick &
Danny Chatelain, MastikSoul, HCCR, Rodri Deniz, Camilo Franco, Edu Reyes, David Penn & Rober Gaez, Dario Nuñez,
Wally Lopez and Klement Bonelli. Their Label Uniform Inflow which is used to release their more underground style has
featured releases from such artist as Cristian Varela, Nick & Danny Chatelain, Tom Stephan (Superchumbo), DJ Pepo
& Pacho B, Bertech & Loiter, Renace & Rafa Siles, D-Formation and Carlo Lio.
Their tracks are consistently played by some of the biggest names in the world including plays on some of the biggest
dance radio shows such as Pete Tongs Essential Collection for BBC Radio 1 (UK), Ministry of Sound, Radio Decibel, 40
Principales, a Radio Mix Residence for Roger Sanchez's radio program Release Yourself on Maxima FM (Spain) and

N&D provide regular mixes for radio shows on Radio Loca (Sweden), Radio Klub France (France), Radio Paris One
(France), Soulgood Radio (USA), On The Floor at Hit Radio (Holland), Alpha Radio (Bulgaria), Loca FM (Spain),

They have been nominated for many awards during their career; they were voted Best Producers of the Year and Track
of the Year for Is Killing Me at the DeejayMags Awards (Spain) in 2006, Best DJ of the Year and Best Tech House DJ
in 2008 and in the 2009 awards they were nominated for the Best Tech House DJ, Best DJ of the Year, Best Label
(Goanche) and Best Production (Rumba, Defected).
In 2011 Nick and Danny Chatelain have no intention of slowing down and are already working on big projects for the
upcoming year including their first album. They have been extremely busy in the studio creating new material and have on
occasions been accompanied by some of the biggest names in the industry so expect some huge collaborations.
