Plastician’s Terrorhythm continue their 2017 apace with the release of new Deadcrow ‘Light Trails’, the follow up to 2016 debut, ‘Night Wonder’ — one of the label’s most successful releases of the last 12 months.

A producer in a similar mould to recent debutant, Klasey Jones, Deadcrow’s hi-def beats and sharp, shimmering melodies project a widescreen, OST-inspired approach to beat programming, only underpinned by harder, trap sensibilities. Wave, the term loosely used to describe music that draws inspiration from instrumental cloud-wave rap, drill and grime, is a core influence, but as EP opener ‘Viper’ suggests, Deadcrow’s music feels rooted in sci-fi fantasy and bright, neon futures.

Synths are a constant, defining feature across all five tracks and at their headiest on spar-kling track, ‘Blade’, with heavyset, rumbling sub patterns also giving the full EP legs for the club — particularly on booming, curveball ’Strayed’ — where Deadcrow will no doubt make his presence felt in 2017 too.

Deadcrow - Strayed

18 months on from the now legendary DJ mix "The Wave Pool MMXV", Plastician presents the much anticipated follow up mix, this time with an accompanying 29 track album of the tracks included within.

The question asked of the first mix was whether or not a new sound was emerging out of the internet - 18 months on, and countless great productions since, this collection of tracks from some of the Wave movement's key players and new blood seeks to gain approval of the Wave genre's arrival.

Including tracks from Klimeks, Kareful, Skit, Sorsari, Deadcrow, Anubis XIII, Hnrk, Noah B, Brothel and more - it's clear to see that this compilation has called upon some of the scene's most noted producers to stake it's claim. 

Mixed and curated by Plastician whose Rinse FM radio show was the platform for this movement to be brought to the attention of the wider public, as well as his Survey parties in Phonox being the initial club night at which this scene established itself outside of the internet - this album is another statement from the man that this sound is not trying to disappear into obscurity any time soon.

Giant ibis causes a stir with his latest two track single, ‘Summon / Nova’, on vibe.digital. ‘Summon’, is a pioneering feat; it takes soundscapes associated with the newly established Wave scene and uses them to build drum and bass tunes of the most absorbing nature. The title track is an upbeat anthem, with a velvety liquid drop. The B-side track, ‘Nova’, is enraptures the listener in a fusion of styles in the 80/160 bpm range. 

Artists such as Giant ibis are laying the groundwork to change the face of alternative electronic genres, which can often be bogged down by strict adherence to dogmatic tropes. With ‘Summon / Nova’, he provides an example of how intricate cross-genre creations can flourish when creativity is unrestricted.
