Going way back to the turn of the millennium with my brother Chris Annibell aka Osiris & Mino Cinelo. Here was our typical day in Brooklyn 2000. I was making coffee's at The Bergen Beat Cafe, Brooklyn. Chris comes over we talk shop for a few hours about music, parties, politics. We go to Pizzatown on 5th ave, grab 2 slices each & talk shop with Nick & Vinny. Then we walk go to Chris' house with some samples, flip on the MPC 2000 to chop samples & mess with beats... bring those back to my place & mess with the ASR-10 keys. Lastly, we record it all to my VS-880 about 50 times turning things up & then down & then up again. Lastly, we record Mino Cinelu when everyone was out of the apartment & things were quiet.  We mix it all down again & again until it was time to master it at Ron's Atlantic West Studios. Then, test it in the car & in the clubs about a week... make more changes & make the artwork & the jump photos! This release came out on Giant Step Records & is now on WONDERWHEEL Recordings. www.wonderwheelrecordings.com

NIckodemus & Osiris feat Mino Cinelu "Free Souls Part 1"

Longtime friend, DJ, producer Sid Vaga saw that Nickodemus was about to play at the Electrafrique party in Dakar & asked if I can get in touch with this singer he noticed on DJ Cortega's Instagram page called Beni-Fadi. Beni-Fadi comes from Bandafassi, Senegal's South East region, where they speak an almost extinct language called Menik. In an attempt to keep the language alive, Beni decided to collaborate with electronic producers & bring his language & story of the Bedik people to the World. Mba-Mba (Dilemma) speaks of being proud of who you are & where you come from even when you are the minority.

1998 vinyl mixtape in the times of NYC Giant Step, Organic Grooves & Turntables on the Hudson parties as well as Sunshine & Dub Club Vienna where we were starting to play often. "A Song for You" reflects our new Nickodemus & Jay B song "Samsara" which is the 1st song on the B side (after the break). There were around 20 samples in the song & no one wanted to release it, until I met MUSH records owner Robert who took the chance & we released "A New Day" EP on vinyl.  Weaving through Jazz & Hip Hop, Dub & Music from around the World with lots of UK pressings, as I frequently bought the imports section of our local record stores Eight Ball, DanceTraxx, Satellite, etc... This was our unique sound we brought to NYC parties at the time. DL & enjoy

Nickodemus live at The House of AïA - Palmaïa mix 2020

In 1995 I passed on a mix tape to Groove Academy (Giant Step) Marc Labelle at an outdoor stage that was rocking with DJ's Jazzy Nice, Chillfreeze + Groove Collective & Nappy G live. They soon took me on as a 3rd DJ in the weekly rotation of the legendary Giant Step parties. The club vibes were HOT! There was a mix of hip hop, jazz, funk, live instrumentation, paintings, tap dancers as well as a very funky & sexy dance floor! Needless to say, I was hooked & thanks to Marc, Maurice Bernstein & Jonathan Rudnick, I stayed in the Giant Step crew for many years after. We pushed the sounds from Acid Jazz/funk, Hip Hop/Trip Hop, House & Drum & Bass- all with live musicians taking it to another level. I've also had the opportunity to DJ at shows for Jazzmattazz, Tricky, K&D, St Germain, Pharcyde, Groove Collective, Massive Attack, Gil Scott Heron & all the greats who passed through NYC at that time. Here's the 1st mix-tape I did for Giant Step in 1995.
