The Damned- "Melody Lee" (Cover)

I had this song stuck in my head (a side effect of countless songs of theirs). It's one of their most popular fan-favorites for its all killer, no filler. power pop melodies. It doesn't overstay its welcome. It’s pretty much perfect.

I obviously like the song, so, entirely on a whim, I just sat down and covered it. Only upon uploading it have I realized that endless people have covered it on here, some doing far more interesting things with it (check out the band, WALL MALK's version, which adheres much more to my own preference with how to do a cover. I went much more straight-forward on this one). 

Well, anyway, here's my version anyway, to likely get lost in the sea of versions, but I don't care. The song's THAT good that even if no one hears my version,. it made me happy doing it, and shouldn't that be the reason you cover anything? 

Well, except, of course, your nude body if you're standing, clothes-less, in the middle of a public street. You should cover that out of adherence to the law.

I'm sure you've heard of creators who have made self-indulgent or just plain stupid art because they were surrounded by what they call "Yes Men". 

Well, I'm not surrounded by Yes Men, but this absolute head-scratcher of an flight of fancy-turned-reality is the result of me likely lacking a much-needed army of militant "No Men". 

While playing Seiken Densetsu 3, now known as "Trials of Mana", an RPG on the Super Nintendo, I heard a music track composed by the great Hiroki Kikuta that, in two specific sections, distinctly recalled (to my ears, at least) melodies similar to both the somber, moving 90's song of abortion and regret, "Brick" by Ben Folds Five and the corny but pro-"all of us getting along" 80's mega hit "People Are People" by Depeche Mode. I began wondering if it was possible to make a mashup unlike one I've ever possibly heard, one that mashes up three disparate songs, solely because the first one (a video game composition, of all things) coincidentally contained some of the notes from the other two.

The answer to if I could, as you can see, was yes.

But just because I could, SHOULD I have ruined the emotional power of Brick by mashing it up with completely clashing Depeche Mode lyrics and a relatively obscure piece of video game music from 1993? It's not a stupid idea at all, right?It's not utterly insane, right?!?!?

This is where the No Men might have come in handy...
