In April 2018, Nick Shake learned that his previous partner and confidant, after a life long struggle with mental health, had taken her own life. This kickstarted an outpouring of grief amongst her close friends and family, and became a catalyst for many impassioned conversations about the mental health crisis we’re currently facing.

The following month, Nick staged a tribute concert in London, in aid of mental health awareness. He was overwhelmed by how much this resonated with people. Everyone there was openly sharing their heartbreaking stories about losing their own loved ones to suicide. It was powerful evening of collective catharsis and healing.

Inspired by the community connections made that night, Nick began crafting the songs and stories that would eventually become the Sandancer EP.

This special mix of Babysteps, taken from Nick Shake's debut release Sandancer EP is full of rich harmonies, jangly guitars and heartfelt lyrics. Babysteps is an joyful folk pop anthem written about the journey of bringing new life into the world.

Sandancer EP is available worldwide on 17th April 2019. Featuring four original songs conveying themes of life, love and loss through beautifully crafted acoustic indie-folk anthems. It was written in the shadow of a tragic life-changing event, and it tells the story of struggling to cope with difficult circumstances, and finding comfort and resolution in your loved ones. 

This has plenty to offer with its rich vocal harmonies, evocative melodies and powerful arrangements. Every instrument on the album was performed by Nick (apart from the Drums), which includes acoustic, electric & bass guitars, piano, synth, ukulele, cello and percussion. Nick also mixed the album with painstaking attention to detail making sure all the instruments fit together smoothly in the arrangements, crafting soundscapes that capture the emotional arc of the narrative.

This is a true labour of love, and promises a cathartic and meaningful experience for its audience. The themes that permeate the songs are universally relatable, and will be sure to leave an emotional impact on the listener. Nick Shake has created a unique musical journey delivered with honesty, humility and above all, heart.
