The wait is over! Platinum Breakz 4 is here. Perhaps one of the most revered album series in drum & bass is back with a vengeance, and some are saying it maybe the best yet. This release is one of two samplers preceding the album.

First up we have cohorts DLR & Script with the Headz vocalist of choice Martyna Baker whom you may be familiar from her work with Goldie and Lenzman. 
The track opens as a gliding, subconscious led number that is wrapped in Martyna's velvet vocal. As the track moves towards its drop it becomes clear the vocal is a paranoid and claustrophobic affair and it reflects the instrumental very well in that the beautiful atmos draped intro becomes a mid-range bass led growler....

Black Sun Empire, prolific as ever, are back with a new EP - and this time they've teamed up with another group of drum and bass legends, State Of Mind. 

Both groups of producers have been making killer neurofunk for over a decade now and are no strangers to a fat bassline and a sucker punching snare, which they demonstrate with ease in this unrelenting drum and bass banger 'Jack Nicholson'.

Joe Ford - Why So Serious (Ft. Linguistics)

Drum & bass stalwarts Black Sun Empire are to follow up a trio of recent EPs from The Upbeats, Neonlight and Pythius with the release of ‘Until The World Ends’ - a five-track, collaborative EP with NZ duo State Of Mind. To be released on January 26th via their genre-defining Blackout imprint, it marks an exciting start to 2015.

Lead track ‘Ego’ immediately sets the tone with growling bass lines and punchy synth-stabs that underpin dark, techy atmospherics and vocal loops.

Second track ‘Until The World Ends’ proves once again both acts’ enduring versatility - kicking off with a bass-heavy dubstep tones complimented by vocal duties from State Of Mind’s fellow New Zealander PNC, before

switching to a manic, intelligently structured groove for the remainder.

‘Bad’ opens with progressive percussion and softly-worked synths that move euphorically to a pounding drum break, whilst fourth track ‘Jack Nicholson’, featuring an imitable sample of the man himself, is a bass-fuelled shockwave of a track. Final track.

‘Moonbox’ closes the EP in true Blackout fashion, with signature frenetic beats and firing drums rounding off proceedings in style.

Black Sun Empire have built a reputation for curating their own brand of dark, neurofunk-inspired drum & bass over the past 12 months and this collaboration with long term accomplices State Of Mind - whom released their latest album ‘Eat The Rich’ via the label earlier this year - feeds into the hype surrounding Blackout as the label looks ahead to 2015.

Following on from the success of ‘Champion Sound’, his previous hit single, Benny Page has been widely celebrated for his work, noted by his first live concert being sponsored by DJ Mag at The Jazz Cafe. Achieving over sixty national spins in two months, ‘Champion Sound’ was favoured by Annie Mac (BBC Radio 1), Mistajam (BBC Radio 1), Rodigan (Radio 1Xtra) and Don Letts (BBC 6 Music), alongside a video premier on Noisey and other publications. The critical success of ‘Champion Sound’ culminated in Benny Page winning a BMA award for “Best Video” and was followed by an exciting signing to a brand new label for his upcoming album.

"UK Allstars (Congo Natty meetys Benny Page - Radio Edit)" featuring Tenor Fly, Top Cat, General Levy, Tippa Irie, Sweetie Irie and Daddy Freddy, taken from the album "Jungle Revolution", to be released on Big Dada Recordings, 1 July 2013. 

Congo Natty aka Rebel MC has a career dating back to his early hit with Double Trouble, "Street Tuff," but is probably most respected as one of the pioneers of Jungle - perhaps the first uniquely UK-born bass music. 

"Jungle Revolution" features the whole of the extended Congo Natty family and was mixed with Adrian Sherwood. Clearly showing this Rasta's belief that Jungle is a re-boot of roots reggae for a new century, the record is full of blood and fire, the sternum-buzz of sub-bass, rapid fire drum breaks, sweet hooks, righteous anger and professions of religious fervour. It’s the kind of passionate, committed, raw and spiritual, beautiful record that doesn’t come along every day.  

To celebrate this release, we are streaming the track "UK Allstars," which features a who's who of British soundsystem culture. This is the first time ever that this line up have all appeared on one track together and so also marks a historic coming together of a scene which lies at the roots of so much of what we now take for granted in UK music, from dubstep to grime to drum & bass and beyond.
